
Technical textiles industry is the fastest growing field of the textile industry thanks to the fast developing technology. Especially in the last two decades the researches made in this field are more important. Today textile materials are used in fields such as medical, building, transportation, agriculture and industry besides classical textile usage fields due to their varieties.
Several textile products manufactures with different raw materials and production methods are especially used in automotive industry. The textile products can be classified as follows according to their usage fields: carpet, safety belt, airbag, voice isolation, seat upholstery, tire cord fabric, tire filling fabric, filter fabric and tents.
Among the most important issues in the production of fabric dedicated for automotive textiles are quality, convenient price, production on time and meeting customer expectations. At an average class automobile, the majority of the textile materials used are mainly polypropylene or polyester fibers or nonwovens. Woven fabrics manufactured from polyester yarns with flat or velvet technologies rank as the second in the upholstery fabric group.
As per the datum provided by the Automotive Industrialists, 20 kilograms of textile material is used in a standard vehicle and this figure increase every day. Two third of these textile products are used in carpets, seat covers and ceiling coverings. The rest is used in pipes, seat belts and airbags, voice and vibration insulation and the filtration of brake fluid, oil, gasoline and air.
