Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Textile Engineering Department Assoc. Dr. Ali Kılıç spoke at the 4th R & D and Innovation Summit organized by the Architects and Engineers Group (MMG). Kılıç has given some information on the establishment of the Medical Textiles R & D Center (MediTeks) by the ITU  and by the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate with the support of the Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA) and mentioned about the development of the value-added materials  according to the responses received from doctors.

Preventing Infection

Kılıç maintained his speech by giving some information on the enhancement of innovative products via applying innovation culture in the areas such as doctors 'gowns, hospital workers' clothes and stretcher fabric and said, "Antibacterial and repellent products are making products. There were certain problems that trigger hospital infection. Antibacterial products are not used in our country at the moment; especially in gowns and stretcher fabrics, as well as antibacterial properties, we are preventing hospital infection, "he said.

700 Bar Pressure Resistant Composite

Kılıç said that they are working on coating materials that reduce hospital infections, and mentioned about the reduction of the hospital infections with the support of the composite materials in the interior spaces of health centers. Kılıç further stated the development of the various composite materials (coating) products within ITU and said that they have been successful in producing a safe material covering LPG fuel tanks. Kılıç said; "If we use these products in coating, it can withstand pressures such as 600-700 bar."

Sales to England and Hong Kong

Ali KIlıç has spoken about the significant progress of the nano-material production and the device capable of producing nano-fiber materials and said the following; "We produce fiber material as thick as 1 thousandth of human hair. We sold to the Philippines, Hong Kong, Czechia and England. So a technology produced in university laboratories went up there," said Kılıç and said the following; ’’ We want to reach the end consumer by taking part in the fairs.’’

We Design They Produce

Stating that they are taking steps together with various brands in order to produce the machines and products developed and said, “We have done successful works together with companies all over Anatolia. After we produce the materials on a small scale at the university, we take them to the companies and demand them to produce these materials on a large scale. We currently have the capacity to produce thousands of meters of non-liquid fabrics. Because on the one hand these companies are designing and manufacturing the largest of these machines, "he said.
