Starting its business with the production of paper folding machines in 1992, Kansan Makine which is one of the most important companies of Turkey in the field of nonwoven production technologies for the hygiene sector continues to produce wet wipe machines, pocket wipe machines, wet wipe packaging machines and lid applicator machines since 1998.
E. Anıl Kırhallı, Sales and Business Development Manager who answered the questions of our magazine group about nonwoven technologies produced by Kansan Machine, shared the following information about company activities: “Kansan Machine offers fully automated wet wipe production lines and solutions. As sales and technical service, we serve our customers in Brazil, USA, Singapore, Peru, Finland and South Africa. We have collaborations with domestic producers and industrial groups of these countries and we also have collaborations with important organizations of the sector such as SCA, Johnsson & Johson, Reckitt Benckiser through direct or indirect projects. All the concept designs of our machines are carried out by our own R&D team. Except for special components and special process parts, all sheet metal, dye, part machining, vertical process, assembly and automation processes are carried by our company in our İzmir-based factory.”
Anıl Kırhallı emphasized that they, as Kansan, provide turnkey solutions for both wet wipe machines and horizontal packaging machines that pack these wipes as well as lid applicator machines and he gave the following information about the production capacity of the machines: “Automatic machines, under the title of wet wipe machines, have a production capacity of between 3,600 and 20,000 sheets per minute. In wet pocket handkerchief machines, this capacity is between 700 and 2,800 sheets per minute. We have a range of packing machines that can produce between 70 and 120 packages per minute. On a high-platform production line with fully automatic double packaging, we can reach the capacity of 190-200 packs/min. Finally, our 4-axis robotic lid applicator machines are capable of applying 70 to 110 lids per minute. Our machines are reliable production platforms for wet wipe producers to complete all the improvement activities that meet all sorts of different folding, liquid dosing, hygiene, ease of use and capacity expectations. "
Disposable Products Market Is Growing
Responding to questions about developments in nonwoven technology, Kırhallı stated that the market has grown in nonwoven hygiene products with the increasing interest in disposable products in the past 30 years. Stating that the market penetration is steadily increasing, Kırhallı said that: “Even in countries with no prior hygiene perception, factories are opened and local producers are formed. Wet wipe has been also included in this growth. Especially thanks to the developments in nonwoven production technologies in the last decade, the costs have been reduced and the production speed has increased. Depending on this situation, we have also increased our machine capacities to meet the demand as a result of the spread of wet wipe.”
Following the developments in the nonwoven sector, Kansan also gives importance to recycling disposable nonwoven products. Stating that significant studies have been carried out in order to recycle these products, but since some products are made of polyester fiber and viscose/cotton blend, this process is quite difficult, Kırhallı said that: "When the production is made with process-friendly technology, production and consumption figures will increase in disposable products such as wet wipes. In this regard, we, as Kansan, have projects. Our engineer team continues working on projects to closely follow developments in recycling technology and to implement projects that will enable this technology for our new generation lines. "

Evaluating the development of nonwoven sector in Turkey, Kırhallı stated that: "Turkey has already become a production base for nonwovens, especially in material production. In the nonwoven sector, Europeans admire Turkey enviously. Gaziantep and Istanbul are very important cities in this area and have a worldwide reputation. In this sector, Turkey is a developed country in terms of volume, technological sufficiency and product diversity. As far as we can see, the investments continue without slowing down, and we see that the foreign companies enter into cooperation in our country and the domestic companies make partnerships abroad. There are also very active Turkish companies capable of making investments in such countries as USA and Egypt. We are pleased that the sector has developed even under the current political and economic conditions. As a company, we continue our work in the field of converting and material processing in order to make the necessary technological contribution. "
Stating that Kansan is the bestseller company in the field of machinery sales in terms of unit and turnover in the world, Kırhallı said that: "At the present time, our 700 machines are used in the world. In the sector, there are machinery companies operating in China and Turkey that address the sub-segment. In the US and Europe there are companies that address the upper segment. Among all these, Kansan has the reputation of being the company manufacturing the highest number of machines and reaching the highest turnover. We are the only company that can supply turnkey production line and we have been able to do this service since 2008. In this sense, Kansan is the most important player in the industry, which has been respected and imitated by competitors.”.
Stating that they implement marketing and sales strategies in order to enter into the new markets even under current conditions, Kırhallı pointed out to the fact that they expect that the medium-sized companies in this sector would be supported by the state, and that if the conditions are improved, the domestic companies that are well-known in the world and represent our country will achieve significant increases in sales figures.
