Technical Textile Research and Application Center (TEKSMER), which is established for the purpose of increasing the share of value-added technical textiles and developing new generation fibers and fibers, which is the basic raw material of technical textile in Turkey, will now fly with its own wings. Initiated as a guided project by Izmir Development Agency in partnership with Aegean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters' Association, Aegean Apparel Exporters' Association and Dokuz Eylül University, the TEKSMER Project has been completed with the closing meeting and it has been fully realised.
Started to accelerate the Turkish textile sector under the coordinatorship of Dr. Devrim Göktaş Başer, the Project aims to carry out basic R & D studies on technical textiles, to provide the development of research projects with university-industry cooperation and to create the laboratory infrastructure and produce information and know-how by making qualified human resource required for this available.
Stating TEKSMER, which has completed its establishment, has entered into an intense tempo, Sabri Ünlütürk, Coordinator President of Aegean Exporters' Associations, says the studies conducted for 10 project under the structure of TEKSMER continue. ""TEKSMER is a project that will be taken as an example in Turkey in terms of how to make a transformation project and how to transit from conventional production to high value added production", explains Ünlütürk.
"As a result of our feasibility study in TEKSMER, we will first focus on protective and medical textile researches", says Ünlütürk, who explains technical textiles constitute 20% of Turkey's total textile exports and that TEKSMER will play an important role in increasing this potential and for the country to take further steps in technical textile. Dokuz Eylül University Vice Rector Dr. Banu Esra Aslanertik suggests, they, as a university aiming to be the center of innovation and R & D in Aegean Region, will always continue to support such studies.
"IZKA has so far transferred funds amounting to 229 million TL with 16 financial support projects and completed 2 projects from 7 guided projects", states Sena Gürsoy, representative of Izmir Development Agency, who suggests TEKSMER is one of those 2 guided project finished by IZKA. Izmir Advanced Technology and Innovation Center and TEKSMER are among the completed projects.
