5th International Technical Textiles Congress held in order to support the researchers and firms working in the field of technical textiles was organised in İzmir Crowne Plaza. About 300 participants supported the event which was organised on the 9th November. While Functional Fibers, Nano Technique Fibers, Medical Textiles, Preventive Textiles, Defensive Textiles, filtration Textiles, Composite Structures, Smart and Interactive Textiles, Packaging Textiles, Automotive Textiles, Sportive Textiles, Agricultural Textiles, Textiles Used in Construction and Buildings, Geotextiles and Technical Designs were the main topics of the congress, many scientists made special presentations Academicians from various international universities took part in the scientific committee which was constituted for the selection of the presentations.
Technical Textiles which are prominent with their superior technical characteristics and are used in such fields as space, aviation, armed forces and medicine are becoming increasingly popular in the daily life. Increasing demands in such areas as casual clothes, furnishing fabrics, building and building equipments direct companies to intensify their products on this product group. Technical textiles production of Turkey which started to increase only recently is stil behind the other countries. It is rather difficult to compete with the world in a field supported only by universities. Thus, Dokuz Eylul University took a step with this congress in order to improve competitiveness and encourage the relevant efforts of the firms. The congress which is held for the fifth time this year gathers researchers and firms both from Turkey and the world. It also aims at providing new opportunities for the Turkish businessmen who make production in this field or think entering into this sector.
The 5th International Technical Textiles Congress which was firstly held in Sabancı Culture Center by the Department of Textile Engineering of Dokuz Eylul University in 2002 in Turkey hosted a great number of foreign visitors. Distinguished scientists from such countries as the USA, England, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Belgium and Greece participated in the event. Turkish scientists also took part in the event; presidents of regional export associations, representatives of clothing industrialist societies, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SANKO Holding Aldülkadir konukoğlu also participated from Turkey. Meeting the researchers and sector representatives in the technical textiles field with the oral and poster presentations, the congress managed to gather all actors of the sector by providing the relevant firms with the opportunity of opening stands.
