11 members of the Aegean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters 'Union and the Aegean Ready-made Clothing and Apparel Exporters' Union came together in the International Competitiveness Development (URGE) Project ’Increasing the Export Potential in the Technical Textile Sector supported by the Ministry of Commerce.
In the field with the first 11 URGE Projects
Jak Eskinazi, Chairman of the Aegean Exporters' Association and Chairman of the Board of Aegean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters Association, stated that their aim is to increase the production of value-added products and to reveal the potential of export of technical textile products in the Aegean Region.
Eskinazi stated that the companies aiming to increase the product variety of technical textile production companies said; ‘’When the product variety of our companies having experience in technical textile is enriched, there will be expansion in export markets and this will have a positive effect on our export figures. Companies that do not have the Technical textile production; the ones we are aiming to make them move from conventional production to technical textile production. Another of the gains of our URGE Project is; an experience sharing pool will be formed among the companies that will take part in the project. Every company will gain profit ”.
Exports Increased 17 Percent in a Year
While Turkey's technical textile exports in 2017 was $ 1 billion 550 million, a 13 percent increase recorded in 2018 and the figures have experienced 1 billion 175 million dollars. Technical textile exports from the Aegean Region; while it was recorded as 85 million dollars in 2017, it has reached 100 million dollars with a jump of 17 percent at the end of 2018.
Manufacturers Expect High Yield in Cotton
Aegan plains that is accountable for the % 20 per cent production in the overall cotton within the country and this year the expectations remain at the 495 kilograms per acre approximately during the year. Based on the cotton harvest projection researched by the Izmir Commodity Exchange (ITB); Aegan region will experience the most productive year in cotton within the last seventeen years with the 495 kilogram per acre. The most productive season in the Aegean was 466 kilograms per decare in 2016-2017. Last season 412 kilograms per decare yield was taken. Chairman of the National Cotton Council (UPK) Bertan Balchik said that in 2019 the cotton cultivation area increased slightly compared to last season. Balçık, "This season is generally in the vicinity Turkey nine hundred thousand tons of cotton fiber yield is the main estimate. We will reach the net amount in the middle of November," he said.
