While the changes in euro-dollar parity and interest rate increase of FED maintain its reflections on the world economy, Turkish Textile Machinery Manufacturers were affected by the fluctuations in the global economy as well. Machinery manufacturers chose to behave prudentially in 2015 in terms of exports and new investments. According to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), while textile machinery manufacturers recorded an export volume of 389 million 948 thousand 947 USD in total, this year’s export volume amounted to 370 million 300 thousand 876 USD.
Textile and apparel machinery and accessories identified within the framework of the Customs Tariff Statistics Positions (GTİP) is classified according to Standard International Trade Classification at GTİP. Within the framework of these categories, according to the data obtained from TÜİK, Turkish textile machinery manufacturers recorded a total machinery export % 5 lower than the previous year in 2015 while machines used for washing, cleaning, drying, ironing warping, folding etc. of woven yarns became the machinery category having the highest export volume amounting to 281 million 372 thousand USD in 2015.
Export to Middle Eastern Market Increased
GTİP lists the machines used for taking up and texturising the wovenable synthetic or artificial fibres under the machines manufacturing, weaving and cutting fibres in the weaving materials with no. 8444. In this machine group, export volume was 5 million 808 thousand 374 USD in 2014. In 2015, total export volume was 2 million 590 thousand 640 USD. The leading market of the export in the field of machines manufacturing, weaving and cutting fibres in weaving machines is Middle Eastern countries. Iran ranked first with an export volume of 1 million 118 thousand 227 USD in 2015 while Saudi Arabia ranked second with its export amounting to 417.17 USD. As for Egypt where the export made to it amounted to 281.300 USD, it ranked third among the Middle Eastern countries.
Significant Decline in Fibre Preparation Machines
A significant decline was recorded in the textile machines included in the category of machines for preparing, spinning, folding, twisting fibres suitable for weaving and yarn preparation with the code number of 8445. While total export amount was 29 million 902 thousand 455 USD in 2014 in 2014, it reduced to 17 million 69 thousand 923 USD in 2015. In this export category which saw a loss of 42 % in 2015, the highest export volume was recorded with Germany with a figure of 31 million 452 thousand 126 USD.
The products under the code number of 8446 include weaving machines (looms). In this category where export amounted to 17 million 970 thousand 149 USD in 2014, export volume was recorded as 15 million 233 thousand 314 USD with a slight decrease.
Export of Knitting, Veil and Guipure Machines at the Same Level
Specified with the number of 8447 at GTİP list; knitting looms as well as machines and various devices for the manufacturing of guipure, veil, lacework and net are listed as self-aligning needle home type circular knitting machines, self-aligning needle industry-type circular knitting machines, home type flat knitting machines, industry type flat knitting machines, home type sewing-tricotage machines, industry-type sewing-tricotage machines, embroidery machines, machines manufacturing strips and lace and other veil and lace machines. While the export figure of these items was 13 million 842 thousand 974 USD in 2014, it was 13 million 558 thousand 806 USD in 2015. While the export volume of 2015 was almost the same with 2014, the biggest market of 2015 became Italy with an export volume of 2 million 347 thousand 610 USD.
Export of Textile Machinery Accessories Reduced Compared to the Last Year
Auxiliary machines, devices and equipment for textile machines (jacquard, shuttle, comber, manufacturing nozzles, lifting wire, needle etc.) with the code number of 8448 ranked second in the list of the textile machinery export of Turkey in 2015 with an export amounting to 22 million 630 thousand 211 USD. While the total export volume in the textile machinery accessories was 33 million 765 thousand 806 USD in 2014, we saw that this figure dropped to 22 million 806 thousand USD with decrease of 32 % in 2015.
In 2015, the country to which the highest amount of export was realised became Belgium with 3 million 248 thousand 55 USD. While the USA ranked second with an export figure of 2 million 459 thousand 43 USD, Turkmenistan ranked third in this field with an export figure of 1 million 579 thousand 868 USD.
Interest in the Felt Machines Increased
According to the data of TÜİK, a higher export volume was recorded in the export of machines and devices suitable for manufacturing and finishing of felts or nonwoven textiles as well as hat presses identified with the code of 8449. While export volume was 870 thousand 235 USD in 2014, this volume reached 1 million 132 thousand 646 USD in 2015.
Export Amounting to 57 Million USD to England
The machines used for washing, cleaning, drying, ironing, warping and folding etc. of woven yarns and textiles – with the code of 8451 - which closed the year 2014 with an export volume of 266 million 548 thousand USD achieved 5 % increase in 2015 compared to 2014 with an export volume of 281 million 372 thousand USD.
England ranks first with an export volume amounting to 57 million 863 thousand 254 USD among the countries to which export is made in this machinery group with the code of 8451. While France follows England with an export figure of 25 million 583 thousand 163 USD, Bangladesh ranks third with an export figure of 22 million 740 thousand 430 USD. (In the machinery exports to England and France, the effect of the countries which carry out production in different countries but use England or France-based banking services is clearly seen.)
According to the data of TÜİK, a decrease of about 20 % was recorded in the product category coded 8452 which include sewing machines as well as furniture, plate, cases and needles manufactured for sewing machines. Contrary to 2014’s export amounting to 21 million 241 thousand 643 USD, the export volume of 2015 was only 16 million 713 thousand 328 USD. When the general export rates obtained from the data of TÜİK are considered, it is clear that the Turkish textile machinery manufacturers were on the decline in the exports made in many categories in 2015 when compared to 2014.
