In 2018, according to the European Union's official statistics agency Eurostat’s latest data, Turkey was the 3rd country about the biggest textile products imported by the EU.
Last year, Turkey has sold 10 billion euros worth of textile products to the EU member states. The first country on the list was China with 27 billion euros and the second was another Far East country Bangladesh with 16 billion euros. India ranks fourth in the list with 5 billion euros, while Cambodia is in the top 5 with 4 billion euros thank to its exports.
In 2018, EU countries imported a total of 166 billion euros of textile products. 51 percent of these products came from outside the EU. Turkey produces 12 percent of textile products on clothing in EU countries, alone. Imports of textile products of member countries increased by 25 percent compared to 2013.
Germany took first place, imports the most textile products with 17 billion euros, while the UK-led United Kingdom at second place with 12.1 billion euros and Spain in third place with 12 billion euros, in this area. Other EU countries that import most textile products were France, the Netherlands and Italy.
