Smart Life 2030 Strategy
Zorluteks General Manager Cemil Çiçek stated that while targeting users in the field of home textiles by putting an emphasis on improving their lives with the applications come into reality and with the new generation products developed, while keeping their commitment for the protection of the environment and the nature and with these in mind, taking into account customer demand within the scope of sustainable consumption, “Within the framework of our group's Smart Life 2030 strategy, we continue all our business activities by accepting sustainability as a way of doing business. Stating that Zorluteks sustainability activities, which were previously listed under the Zorlu Holding Sustainability Report, will be published in a separate paper as “Zorlu Tekstil Group Sustainability Report” as of 2021, Çiçek stated that all stakeholders can have more detailed information about Zorluteks activities from the Sustainability Report to be published in June. Besides, Çiçek said, “We have gathered all environmental sustainability reports carried out within Zorluteks under the Cleaner Production Umbrella. We carry out certification management, chemical management, industry 4.0 studies, ecological product development, waste management and energy efficiency studies. We qualified for the I-REC certificate that proves that renewable sources are the major source of our electricity that we use for 2020 and 2021. In the coming years, we will continue in this way until we create an alternative solution. Our feasibility studies on the installation of a solar power plant and wind turbines are continuing. In addition to these, we have applied for a TÜBİKAT project jointly with various universities and industrial organizations in order to widespread the use of solar energy in the industry instead of the use of natural gas, which currently has no alternative in any sector. If our project is accepted, we will have taken a big step towards the green transformation of the industry.”
Cleaner Production Software for Nature from Zorluteks
With nearly 70 years of experience in the industry and with great responsibility, Zorluteks has developed Clean Production Software with the aim of using natural resources in the most efficient way while designing the future of home textiles. Making a statement on the Cleaner Production Software, Çiçek said, “Thanks to the Clean Production Software, which we have implemented entirely with our own teams and our own means, the electricity, water, natural gas and steam consumptions of our machines in our facility can be monitored and reported instantly. Thus, we can achieve maximum efficiency. For example, the electricity, water, natural gas and steam consumption amounts we use to produce 1 kg of fabric can be calculated with this software. While an average of 120 liters of water is used for the production of 1 kg of fabric in the world, we reduced it to 80 liters. We aim to reduce this usage further to 53 liters with our water consumption improvement studies and instant follow-ups that we can conduct thanks to the software.’’

One of the most important projects we have implemented in line with this goal; Our Ecodesign product category, which reduces its carbon footprint by at least 50 percent. Within the scope of our Ecodesign product range, which is produced using less water, energy and chemicals, we produce many products such as bedding sets, tablecloths, decorative pillow covers. Here, we aim to further expand our product range.”
