The textile and ready made clothing sectors, which carries 12 percent of Turkey’s total exports, are offering scholarships to future textile engineers.

Scholarships to Future Textile Engineers from İTKİB

It was announced that the amount of scholarship to be provided to students, whom applied for relevant departments of universities and meet the criteria’s, will exceed 20 million TL this year. Within the scope of the program, which secure internships and employment for students whom are entitled to receive scholarships, students applying their one of first five places to textile engineering and whom are placed in this department, will be granted for a scholarship to the minimum wage. Those ranked in the top 10,000 will be awarded a scholarship to the minimum wage, in between 10,000 and 20,000 will be awarded a scholarship to the 70 percent of the minimum wage, in between 20,000 and 50,000 will be awarded a scholarship to the 50 percent of the minimum wage, and in between 50,000 and 80,000 will be awarded a scholarship to the 40 percent of the minimum wage. The scholarships that students receive throughout their education period increase in the amount of the minimum wage each year.

The Textile Engineering Scholarship Program, which was initiated by İTKİB under the leadership of the Textile and Ready-to-Wear Exporters' Associations within the framework of the protocol signed with the Council of Higher Education with the support of the Ministry of Trade in 2019 and where scholarships granted to more than 350 students to date, aims to reach a total of 500 scholarship recipients as of this year. With this program, which makes valuable contributions to the education period and career development of students, giant steps were made for the future of the textile sector and it was announced that the annual budget of the scholarship program is approximately over 20 million TL. While significant financial support is provided to students with this scholarship program, the program offers scholarship to all students whom meet sufficient success criteria’s without any limitation on the number of applicants. Those ranked in the top 10,000 will be awarded a scholarship to the minimum wage, in between 10,000 and 20,000 will be awarded a scholarship to the 70 percent of the minimum wage, in between 20,000 and 50,000 will be awarded a scholarship to the 50 percent of the minimum wage, and in between 50,000 and 80,000 will be awarded a scholarship to the 40 percent of the minimum wage. Students whom benefit from the scholarship program, having the opportunity to do internships in the textile and ready made clothing industry starting from their first year as a volunteer, can choose to do internships in the fields applicants wished for to specialize in during their third and fourth years. İTKİB provides support regarding the areas or field of specialization inwhich students wishing to do their internships. In this way, students can increase their experience in the sector and be better prepared for business life with the right tools and equipment after graduation. Students whom graduated from textile engineering departments can work in all production stages of the textile and ready made clothing industries. Textile engineers, whom can take part in every stage of manufacturing from yarn to fabric, from dyeing and finishing to ready made clothing, can also work in departments such as production planning, sales and marketing. These can have a wide range of areas of specialization by working in an integrated manner with disciplines such as textile engineering, chemical engineering, industrial engineering and mechanical engineering.

27.4% of Textile Engineers Employing Before Graduating

Textiles and ready made clothing, Turkey's second largest exporting sector, get stakes of over 12% of Turkey's total exports. With 28.5 billion dollars in exports and 20 billion dollars in foreign trade surplus, the sectors that bring the most foreign currency to Turkey also provide employment for over 1 million people. The annual production of these sectors is 80 billion dollars. More than 30 thousand businesses actively operate in the textile and ready made clothing industry, including those with the largest denim, fabric, technical textiles and fiber production facilities of Europe. Tens of thousands of export companies operating throughout Turkey experience major problems in reaching qualified textile engineers. According to the data of the Presidency's Human Resources Office, 27.4% of Textile Engineers employing before graduating. Therefore, it is undertaken that all support will be provided to students participating in the scholarship program if they cannot find a job after finishing school and apply to any Textile and Ready-to-Wear Exporters' Association operating throughout Turkey.

Textile Engineers with Job Security Trained

14 universities with textile engineering divisions across Turkey are hosting students whom benefit from the scholarship program. Prestigious universities such as Istanbul Technical University, Marmara University, Ege University, Dokuz Eylül University, Uludağ University, Gaziantep University, Pamukkale University, Çukurova University, Süleyman Demirel University, Namık Kemal University, Erciyes University, Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University, Uşak University and Adıyaman University are amongst the institutions included in the program. There are more than 500 quotas in the textile engineering departments of 14 universities, and scholarships are provided to all students whom are qualifed without any limits.
