İTHİB awarded last year's successful exporters with ‘Export Leaders’ award ceremony. A total of 1099 exporters received awards in 5 different categories.

Leaders of Textile Exports Have Been Awarded

Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters' Association (İTHİB) awarded the Export Leaders in 5 different categories at the ‘Export Leaders’ award ceremony including platinum, gold, silver, bronze and success.

Speaking at the opening briefing of the award ceremony, President Ahmet Öksüz İTHİB, has mentioned about significant success achieved by the award-winning exporters and said;

‘We reward our exporters who have made great contributions to the export of textile and raw materials sector to 188 countries in 2018 amounting to 10.5 billion dollars. Our sector, which gives significant contribution to our country's economy, provides employment to 413 thousand people with 11 thousand 200 exporters. As the textile sector, our duty is to work day and night to increase our strength in our existing markets and to open up new markets and to move our exports up further. Branding, design, R & D and innovation are always our top priorities. Today, 341 design centers located in Turkey and 62 of them operates in the textile sector. In addition, 71 R & D center actively operates in our sector. The most significant indication noted as technical textile exports we have reached during 2018. Turkish textile and raw materials sector, not long merely 18 years ago, Turkey ranked as 13th in the world and from there, has started to climb up to upper stages. Today, Turkey ranked as the 7th largest supplier in the world and 2nd largest supplier in EU’

Öksüz mentioned about success of the nation in the past to pass many developed countries over the years and said, ‘Our goal is to move market share of our country to the upper ranks in the world. Textile sector will continue to be one of the most important sectors as it was yesterday and as it is today’

Scholarships for Textile Engineering Students

Referring to the agreement signed with YÖK, İTHİB President said, ‘’We have signed a protocol with YÖK for ‘Raising the Perception of Textile Engineering project’. This project is to be brought in to life to meet the trained manpower needs of the future of our industry provided with free scholarship to students ,who ranked within the first 80.000 and chosen Textile Engineering Courses, by the Exporters Association and  Turkish Textile Industry Employers Union’’

"Turkey ranked as seventh in the world Textiles"

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Deputy Commerce Minister Reza Danube Turagay also noted the importance of the textile sector in Turkey's economy and said, ‘Textile is still our pupil today. While the total share of Turkey’s exports in world exports reaching % 0,9; the total exports of Turkey in total share of world exports amounting to %3,1.  Turkey ranks 31st in world exports and 7th in textiles. This proves our competitiveness capability. Can we neglect such an important sector? We must continue to support the textile industry and further strengthen it. Textile and apparel sector will always remain as our pupil in the Ministry of Commerce with the instructions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs

Turagay congratulated organizers of the event and all exports present at the ceremony and said, ‘We aim to move our textile sector to 15 billion dollars currently and 20-25 billion dollars in 2023’

“Textile Sector Was Present Yesterday, Present Today and Will be Present Tomorrow”

Turkey Exporters Assembly (TIM) Chairman Ismail Gülle, pointed out in his speech to the historical development of the textile sector; ‘Turkey’s exports was around 2.5 billion dollars in 1980 and 1.5 billion of this budget allocated to Textiles and Clothing. Textile sector was present yesterday, present today and will be present tomorrow. Sümerbank was founded in 1937. Also, Exporters Association was founded in the same year. Since that date, foreign export of Turkey and exporters’ only represented by Turkey Exporters Assembly with the best service provided. Last month, we announced the April exports for the first time on behalf of the President of the Republic of Turkey. April was the highest in the history of the Republic with an average of %6 per cent increase. We have seen a successful increase in our textile sector and in ready-to-wear sector. We are breaking export records every month, adding success to our achievements’

Indicating that exports and production are not an easy task, TİM President Gülle said, “ We have come to the point of being so efficient in this bridge sector and we have started to inspire other sectors as well. We would like to congratulate and support Ahmet Öksüz for his work on raising the perception of textile engineering and the protocol they have signed with YÖK. This project will affect other sectors and will be a preferred choice in universities”
