Far-Eastern Influence on Machinery Imports

While textile machinery imports of Turkey showing an increase trend, machine sales of European manufacturers to Turkish market showing a decrease. In 2020, Turkish textile manufacturers’ investments for machine import are in excess of 1.5 billion dollars.

Textile Machinery Export Decreased

Textile Machinery manufacturers are experiencing the shock that has seen in the annual export during pandemic. In the Tüik official data (Turkey Statistical Institute), sales figures were decreased by %17 from $ 809,112,636 in 2019 to $ 671,721,221 in 2020. The sector recovery for the sector was led by the increasing demands of the domestic market, a market experiencing  export loss of over 137 million dollars in 2020. Machinery manufacturers, exported more than 800 million dollars in 2019, were set their journey in 2020 with the goal of maintaining their success figures. The borders closed with the pandemic and the panic atmosphere in foreign markets have a negative impact on export reach of textile machinery manufacturers. With the increasing demand in the domestic market and new investments, textile machinery imports have achieved a significant increase.

Textile Machinery Imports Increased by 34%

Last year, Turkish textile manufacturers continued their investments. They both increased their machinery purchases from domestic producers experiencing a lockdown in exports and made new investments with textile machinery imports. Due to new investments, textile machinery imports increased by 34% in 2020 to over $ 1.5 billion. Despite the disruptions in service and delivery under pandemic conditions, the growing interest in machinery imports with a such increase is thought-provoking. One of the most important points in the Turkic data is that the export of dyeing and finishing machines showing a decrease trend, the most important export areas of Turkish manufacturers, and on the other hand, the imports have increased significantly in the same category.

Record Increase in Weaving Machine Imports

In the GTIP, technologies related to the textile and apparel industries, enumerated with the Standard International Trade Classification, are listed in detail. According to TURKSTAT data, while Turkish textile machinery manufacturers demonstrated a decrease of  nearly14 percent in 2020, the highest exports are recorded in processes of  washing, cleaning, drying, ironing, wrapping, folding etc. of woven yarns and fabrics machinery with $ 554,008,374. Also, in the same category, there was a decline in the same by 95 million dollars compared to the same period of the preceding year. The highest import figure is 338 million dollars and in the specialized machinery for fiber preparation, yarn production and preperation coded as  8445 GTIP.

Decreased in Import Machines Coded As 8444 GTIP

In the GTIP, there are machines used for drawing and texturing synthetic or artificial materials suitable for weaving under the special machinery that manufacture, weave and cut fibers in textile materials with the number 8444. It is seen that the export of this machinery recorded as 741,244 Dollars in 2020.  In 2019, it was appeared as 2.139.753 dollars. Our imports, on the other hand, which were 166,320,443 dollars, now decreased to 92,053,264 dollars.

Spinning Machine Imports Increased by 100%

In textile machinery exports, it can be said that that export figures have decreased  by 13 million dollars compared to 2019 in machinery classification for fiber preperation, yarn production and preperation identified with the GTIP number 8445. In 2019, the sales figures were at 42,464,259 dollars, and in 2020,  it was decreased it 29,809,139 dollars. In spinning machinery imports identified with the GITP 8445 there has been a dramatic twofold increase with 338.511.731 where 169.973.713 dollars were recorded in the same product category in 2019.

Weaving Machine Imports Increased by 121%

The products included in the export classification with HS Code number 8446 in weaving looms are listed as follows; weaving machines fabric width <30 cm, motorized rapier weaving machines fabric width> 30 cm. While the export figures of these machines were released as 25,863,123 dollars in 2019, it decreased sharply to 15,702,031 dollars in 2020. The most significant increase in import figures was in this category. Our imports, which was 124.327.314 dollars in 2019, increased more than twofold by 121.26% and reached  to 275.082.206 dollars.

An Increase In The Imports Of Knitting Machines

Specified with the number 8447 of the HS Code in GTIP list; Knitting looms, gripür, lace, ruching and for the mesh fabrication, a range of machine and devices forming other category of the sector for the textile export sector. Specified with the number 8447 of the HS Code in GTIP list; Knitting looms, gripür, lace, ruching and for the mesh fabrication, a range of machine and devices forming other category of the sector for the textile export sector. The code numbers for these devices and their head parts; Spherical needle home type circular knitting machines cylinder diameter <165mm, spherical needle industrial circular knitting machines cylinder diameter <165mm, spherical needle home type circular knitting machines cylinder diameter> 165mm , home type flat knitting machines,  industrial type flat knitting machines, home type tricot and sewing machines, industrial type tricot and sewing machines, processing machines, machines which are producing  strip and gimbal and other  tulle and lace machines. The export figures of this machinery were $ 18,679,069 last year, while it was $ 10,766,398 in the same period this year. Our 2019 imports that recorded as165,581,629 dollars, increased by 50.1% in 2020 to 248,562,073 Dollars.

Imports at the Same Level in Rapier and Jacquard Machines

The list includes rapiers and jacquards with number 8448, and with machines reducing jacquard, duplicating, piercing or combining them, auxiliary machines for spinning machines to weave yarns, production nozzles, other auxiliary and parts and parts of machines for textile fiber preparation and spindles for weaving fiber producing machines. While the export figures of these machines were given as 31,392,609 Dollars in the period of January-December 2019, it was recorded that they fell to 26,585,078 Dollars in the same period of 2020. There was no significant decrease in the import of the same products. In 2019, figures were decreased by 4% from153,535,678  to $ 147,148,793.

Imports and Exports of GTIP 8449 Coded Machinery Decreased As Well

It is stated that in the group of parts and accessories of machinery manufacturing felt, which takes place with the number 8449 in the HS Code, export classifications are at the lowest level. In this field, it is stated that in the period of January-December 2019, 2,661,227 dollars worth of export were achieved and 3,391,521 dollars worh of export in 2020. The downward trend in exports seems to have continued in imports as well. Between 2019 to 2020, import figures were decreased from 132,025,358 dollars to 95,388,869 dollars.

Seeming Data on Washing Machines

The product range of machines and devices for washing, drying, and ironing of textile materials is defined by the number of GTIP 8451. Dry cleaning machines, household dryers, ironing machines and persler, washing machines used in industry, bleaching machines, dyeing machines, finishing and end processing machines, auxiliary and parts of dry cleaning machines, auxiliary and parts of other fabric machines, machines for winding fabric in rolls. ,dry laundry containers <10 kg, other dryers dry laundry containers <10 kg, machines for cutting fabrics into shape, machines for unrolling, folding, cutting fabrics, Linoleum etc. fabric and so on. Pastry coating machines are the subtitles of this segment. In this category, which has the highest export figure, it is seen that in 2019, Turkish machinery manufacturers achieved an export figure of 642.854.149 Dollars. In 2020, exports decreased by 15% compared to the previous year and  received appreciation with figures at 554,008,374 Dollars. Imported machines, which shows a decrease trend year by year  in washing machinery with the effect of  domestic machinery, have completed 2020 with a tremendous increase of 63% with 219,166,070 dollars. The imports of machines with the number 8451 HS Code in 2019 were at the level of 139.342.514 Dollars.
