The British textile machinery manufacturers, which has an important role for the Turkish textile sector in supplying machinery, has a vital place in the world that lies in its historical and economic roots. Since 1733 with James Kay’s invention of the flying shuttle, increasing the speed of fabric woven and in 1764, Jonathan Hargreaves’sinvention of the spinning jenny, spinning 8 reels at the same time, where as also since the first steam-powered textile mill was established in the UK, the British textile machinery manufacturers, still continuing with their innovative activities, in 1940 came together under the name British Textile Machinery Manufacturers Association (BTMA). Being a non-profit organization, they are undertaking the task of creating a bridge between their members and textile manufacturers.

From scanning, spinning, weaving, knitting, tufting and nonwovens production to advanced coloring, finishing and printing techniques currently used in the textile production process, where as today all of them manufactured under British licensees, BTMA has shouldered the responsibility in promoting the textile machinery manufactured by the British throughout the world. Participating in fairs in order to achieve this, BTMA has already increased its influence in India and China.

A Traditional Structure Creating A Strong Future

Alan Little, the President of BTMA, who has undertaken this mission many years ago, stated that as an association, they were facilitating activities, under the traditional structure of the British textile machinery manufacturers for the aim to create a strong future for England where as to continue in operating the legacy of their large textile machineries. Mr. Little stated that the machinery that was used by their members for production and their inventions was used all over the world, adding that the British textile machinery manufacturers were a global leader in the area of quality control, testing and auditing.

Mr. Little expressed that 2014 had been extremely fruitful in terms of their business and explained that during this period their member’s exports had increased by 34 percent. Indicating that the largest increase has been occurred in China, Mr. Little said that the textile producers were no longer only taking in to consideration the power and the efficiency of the machines, but also were placing importance in the availability of spare parts and services. Emphasizing that their members were very sensitive upon this issue, Mr. Little stated that they were continuously working for ensuring to provide the best quality of service and spare parts with consistency.
