Bankruptcy and Concordat Storm in the Textile Sector

It seems that the global economic crisis have an impact on the textile industry in Turkey. In Turkey, especially in Bursa, new companies are added to the existing ones everyday that declare bankruptcy and concordat one after the other.

While delivering a speech spesifically on the recent increase in concordats and bankruptcies, Demirtaş Organized Industrial Zone Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (DOSABSİAD) Chairman of the Board Nilüfer Çevikel said that concordats are experienced not only in Turkey but also in many textile countries such as England and Spain. While stating that concordat decisions should be carefully examined before any concerning legislation, Nilüfer Çevikel said;

“Concordat Decisions Should Not be Taken So Easily”

“Concordat decisions should not be made so easily. This situation disrupts the balance of payments in the market. I am the president of a region where both textile and automotive industries are located. This is a region with 5 billion dollars of exports. There is a serious problem in both the textile and automotive industries, caused by the global crisis. We should place the product on the shelves and market it to the end consumer. Turkey is no longer a supplier of big brands. Big brands have shifted their focus to underdeveloped nations for production. What we need to do is to raise big brands. Influential brands should emerge from Turkey."
