Temak, the company for textile machinery and accessories that operates in İstanbul, continues its successful works in the field of traveller production. The company established in 1980 by Salih Horozoğlu and Ali Süha Doratlı, dominated 95 percent of the Turkish market with 150 different types of traveller it produced in the same period. Salih Horozoğlu, one of the founders of the company, which continues its successful works evert period, answered our questions. We received important information from Horozoğlu about the development of the company, traveller production and the change that the sector went through thru the years.
Salih Horozoğlu reminded that suitcase trading was very popular during the time when the company was established and this situation made the million-dollar machines inoperable. Horozoğlu stated that they started their operations in a period when a loss of time was caused because of working indexed on the products coming from the suitcase trade. Horozoğlu continued by saying; “In order to fill this gap in the market, within 12-18 months, we started to produce 150 types of plastic traveller demanded immediately by Turkey. The sales, performed to the small companies at the beginning, changed form in time and we managed to appeal to 95 percent of the companies located in Turkey that consume travellers. Today, our company carries out traveller production ( as plastic travellers ) which requires high technology in wool synthetic yarn production, worsted, semi-worsted and wool blended yarn production, cotton yarn and technical yarn production. The travellers are manufactured as compatible with the rings used in the spinning machines of all brands. Today we’re able to produce 2000 types of traveller.
Traveller Quality is Important for the Yarn Quality
Salih Horozoğlu made important evaluations about traveller and yarn production. Horozoğlu said that the yarn should be twisted properly and the quality of it should be protected. Horozoğlu emphasized that the shape and the weight of the traveller, which are compatible with the operating speed of the machine and the suitable working environment, direclty affect the producuction efficiency and yarn quality. In this regard, Horozoğlu said that they are in a significant cooperation with the companies.
Horozoğlu stated that the selection of traveller is done through trial and error method. “A traveller is not a parameter that can be calculated. A traveller, which is an important material in yarn production, does not affect the production cost very much. However it provides advantages over the selling price of the yarn. The travellers, which are a production material that gives quality to yarn have a lifespan between 7 and 21 days under normal conditions. Such an important material should be protected very carefully from supplying to the assembly,” said Horozoğlu.
Traveller Supply in a Day
Horozoğlu underlined that Temak, which has had an effecitve market share in the sector for 30 years, has a successful network. “We deliver the product demanded by the customers in desired amount within 24 hours,” said Horozoğlu and added that the yarn manufacturers have to perform production according to the demands of the customers. “The manufacturer that has to use travellers in different weights for each yarn number, can not include that much traveller in its stocks. For that reason, Temak offers this demand of the market to the manufacturers. We have half of Turkey’s annual demand in our stocks. We can also perform production within a very short time for special requests,” said Horozoğlu.
Horozoğlu made evaluations about the international markets of Temak and said that the company keeps up with the developing markets and with its representatives it carries out studies especially in Egypt, Syria, Iran and Pakistan
Yarn Production Moves to the East
Horozoğlu also made evaluations about the yarn market and said that the production moves to the East in every period. Horozoğlu stated that the yarn production began in Europe. “Due to the raw material and labor costs, the production has moved to the East, to Asia, in time,” said Horozoğlu and added that the same process was experienced in Turkey. Horozoğlu finished by saying; “The investments in yarn weaving, which began in İstanbul, moved to Bursa, Denizli, Uşak, Maraş, Adıyaman and Gaziantep in time. The countries in the East, which watched the works of important manufacturers and of Turkey, started cotton yarn production. After this period, the Far East dominated the yarn production. Turkey, which adopted an import policy as the Turkish Lira gained value, is still one of the important manufacturers thanks to its experience and knowhow.”
