In cooperation with Emtec Electronic, a German device producer, world-wide known fibre producer Lenzging has introduced the new method it has developed for softness measuring to its customers.
In fashion industry, appearance is followed by comfort, which is one of the most important parameters having an impact on purchasing decision. Softness of the textile is also a significant factor for comfortable clothes. "Softness is gaining more and more importance in the eyes of brands and retailers as a comfort element. Lenzing Modal® fibres are the softest fibre in our portfolio, you can easily feel it." says Claudia Mommer, Product Manager of Lenzing Modal®. "However, an increasing number of our customers are demanding measures clarifying the softness of our fibres in physical terms. Some certain physical measures are requested for the purpose of confirming the feelings of customers and convincing them in sales points". adds Mrs. Mommer.
A New Method To Measure Softness
A group specifically formed in the Research Department of Lenzing and focused on conducting research on physiological properties has done a research to find an easier way of measuring softness. Coming to an agreement with Emtec Electronic through a mutual cooperation for new tests after an intensive test process, Lenzing has performed mutual tests in order to create a suitable algorithm for the device software which determines the softness through Sound-Spectrum.
Softness measuring device of Emtec Electronic indicates to what extent the softness of the products has increased in accordance with the amount of Lenzing Modal® the textile contains. Tests results prove that the softest fibre among the fibres tested is MicroModal®. "As am instrument producer, it is important for us to get into new working areas. Lenzing’s technical knowledge on textile was highly instrumental in developing our ‘Tissue Softness Analyser’ further to become a ‘Fabric Softness Analyser’,” explains Alexander Grüner from Emtec Electronic, speaking about the device. This new test method will help customers have a sound feeling of softness by quickly indicating the softness degree of fabrics with Lenzing Modal®.
