Izmir Commodity Exchange (ITB) President Barış Kocagöz said that Turkish cotton is sold 15 percent cheaper than its alternatives abroad. Pointing out that the reason for this is the industrialist who imports more than market demand at very high prices, Kocagöz said, “For some reason, the industrialist who imports duty-free cotton, without considering its market value, regards it as a" product is to be bought as cheap as possible "when it comes to Turkish cotton. As consequence, in excess of 1 million ton foreign exports could be sold nearly ten times higher than its market value at the time Turkish goods and commodities were dropping at floor level at around 70-80 thousand tons. This will result in the morale of the producers whom are ready for collecting them during harvest season. Our production may experience a fall by 35 percent this year. If you gave the manufacturer a chance to return, I would assure you that another half could give up.’’
