Recycling
The figures that give direction to the global fashion and the representatives of the world's leading brands have met at the Istanbul Ready-to-Wear Conference to inform about the steps already been taken and the ones that are on plan in the textile industry for a sustainable world. Speaking at the event, supported by Turkey's only and the world's leading acrylic fiber producer Aksa Akrilik, Marketing Manager Atakan Koru said, “Production, consumption and recycling, which are the components of sustainability, are very important. We have carried out very important works both in production and recycling field. But in this process, we realized that we did not focus on one reality as much as we should have. When we consider a product, 1/3 of the impact of this product on the environment occurs during production, and the remaining 2/3 occurs during washing, drying and while making it ready for use. Backed up by this data, the point that should be emphasized is that the consumer who performs the actions that accounts for the 2/3 effect must be included in the process in order to fully ensure sustainability.’’
‘’Consumer Leadership is needed for Sustainable Future’’
Continuing his speech that sustainability will be achieved by involving the consumer in the decision mechanism, Koru stated that instead of adopting a new perspective while designing the future, it would be a more appropriate strategy to advance under the leadership of the consumer with current studies. According to consumer research, Koru listed what kind of support the consumer seek for during use as less washing, longer-lasting use, faster drying, less staining, stain-proofing and fast drying, and continued with his wording as follows, “The purpose of this meeting is not to sell more, but to find what is sustainable. Putting the consumer at the core of the sustainability process is inseparable from selling better quality products and making something better for our planet.’’
Continuing his speech that a successful sustainability policy can be achieved by considering the consumer in the decision mechanism, Koru pointed out to the need to adopt a new perspective that puts the consumer at the center of the topic, instead of moving with the current studies while designing tomorrow. According to consumer research, Koru evaluated the issues that disrupt the client as follows; the pollution that a product leaving its trace during production for ready to use and its consumption. Koru underlined that this demand linked to the less washing, longer lasting use, faster drying, less staining or stain-proofing, and fast drying in sequence. Koru gave the following statements in the continuation of his wording, ‘’This event, which brings together very valuable figures of the industry under the theme of "Green Revolution", is an important step in finding the complementary part of sustainability and including it in the plan by offering a completed perspective."
