Turkey abandoned the decisions of protection that it has applied since 2008. The additional tax, which was applied for the importation of cotton yarn and which was especially brought to agenda because of the fact that India complained to the World Trade Organization, was removed. With the application which came into force on 1 January, India's cotton yarn will be imported to Turkey without additional tax at customs. Following the agreement signed with India, the customs duty applied for the cotton yarn which is imported from Egypt was removed. Following the applications which are effective from January 2013, the cotton yarn imported from Egypt will be entered into the Turkish market without any additional tax. Making evaluations about this situation, Hatem Saleh, Egyptian Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade, expressed that Turkey's decision was a great opportunity to improve Egypt's importation volume of cotton yarn. Stating that the abolition of customs duties also means the end of quotas imposed by Turkey, Saleh said: ''I think that the trade relations between Egypt and Turkey will increase after this period.''. Saleh ended his speech as follows: '' With the existing free trade agreement, Egypt is exempted from customs for the exportation of cotton yarn, and this situation provides advantages for the other Asian countries. Furthermore, the geographical proximity reduces transportation costs. Egypt can increase its power in Turkish market thanks to these advantages.
Considering the importation of cotton yarn made from Egypt to Turkey, we see that the importation volume of $ 66,2 million was recorded in 2007-2011. In total, this rate corresponds to 7.790 tons of cotton yarn, half of this rate was made on the date when the protection laws were in force, and the rest was made on the date when the customs duty was not applied.
