
Kordsa Global, which is included within Sabancı Holding, is the world leader in nylon and polyester yarn, cord fabric and single cord production and has been continuing to grow for 37 years. With 10 facilities it has in 9 countries on 5 continents and around 5000 employees, the company, which decided to make significant investments in 2012, is the leading company in its field. Mehmet Pekarun, President of Industry at Sabancı Holding, made statements about the company’s investments and studies for the year 2012.
Pekarun stated that Sabancı Holding, which includes Kordsa Global, Brisa, Omluksa, Yünsa, Sasa and Temsa Global within its body, made $ 130 million worth of investment in 2011 and made a turnover of TRY 6 billion. Pekarun added that the holding aims to make a turnover of TRY 7 billion in 2012. Pekarun remarked that in the holding’s portfolio, 6 companies within the holding, have shares nearly more than 40 percent in turnover and profitability in the non-bank issues.
Pekarun said that they set an investment budged of $ 275 million for 2012. Pekarun added that instead of establishing a new facility in China, Kordsa Global is going to expand its facilities of polyester yarn and cord fabric in Indonesia. Pekarun gave information about expanding the facility in Indonesia and added; “85 percent of the investmen budget of $ 275 millon, will be allocated to Kordsa and Brisa. Instead of establishing a cord fabric facility in China, we will expand our facility in Indonesia. It will be a huge investment for Kordsa. Our polyester yarn and cord fabric facilities in Indonesia will be expanded. We place emphasis on not purchases but on organic growth. We will grow in our markets and in our business. We will make an investment of more than $ 110 million with Brisa and around $ 130 million with Kordsa.”
Pekarun underlined that the most competent facility in expanding Kordsa’s market for its new customers is the one located in İzmit, which is followed by the one in Indonesia. “We continue our growth in the Asian market. A huge investment will be made in Kordsa and a significant part of it will be made in our polyester yarn and cord fabric facility in Indonesia. We have been giving service to China through Indonesia and Thailand. Now we’re focusing our scale on Indonesia. Instead of establishing a cord fabric facility in China, ee’re aiming to achieve the necessary growth by expanding out facility in Indonesia with an investment around $ 100 million,” said Pekarun., who also mentioned Kordsa’s goals for 2012. Pekarun stated that last year, the company made a turnover of TRY 1,6 billion and it is expected to reach TRY 2 billion this year.
Mehmet Pekarun made also evaluations about Yünsa, which is other important textile enterprise of Sabancı Holding. Pekarun stated that in 2011, Yünsa’s total fabric sales reached 12 million meters with an increase of 10 percent and the company made a turnover of TRY 215 million, with an increase of 36 percent. Pekarun added that the turnover of the company is expected to increase by 30 percent in 2012.

In October 2011, Kordsa Global introduced the innovative product Capmax™ as a textile reinforcement material ready to use in tire production. As the product can be directly applied to the tire, it eliminates some stages in the tire production such as rubber mixing or cutting. Capmax™, which provides material, labour and energy savings as it consumes less rubber, contributes greatly to the tire manufacturers in terms of productivity, economy and ecology.
