Cotton draws attention with its added value and employment opportunities created for humanity due to its widespread and mandatory use, as it is a product of great economic importance for the countries it is produced. Cotton is a raw material that is the essential of the textile industry with its fiber. Therefore, it has captured massive usage areas both in Turkey and in the world.
Cotton Production in the World and Turkey
According to the report published by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry; due to the small number of countries with favorable ecological agriculture in the world controlling around 80 percent of world cotton production is handled by the seven countries and Turkey can also be placed among them.
Sixth Rank of Turkey in Cotton Production
Cotton cultivation is done in 34.9 million hectares in the world in the 2019/2020 season and 26.4 million tons of fiber cotton is expected from this cultivation.
It is predicted that India will be the largest producer with 6.4 million tons of fiber cotton production for the 2019/2020 production season. India is followed by the US, China and Brazil and Turkey is holding the sixth stage in the world cotton production with its ranking and with its 784 thousand tons of cotton fiber production.
