Woolmark Contests in Final Stage

The worldwide contests organized by Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), Australian non-profit company consisting of 60 thousand Merino wool producers, has come to the final stage.

The finalists are anounced for the Woolmark contest which is held for providing innovative products and ideas to textile and fashion industry. 10 young university students became the finalists for the Woolmark Performance Contest supported by Adidas.

In the contest, 510 students from 58 European and North American Universities competed for the final stage with their products that emphasize the advantages of Merino wool. Adidas Design Director Tillmann Studrucker explained that he had used to expect Woolmark Performance Contest to remain as a small project and said “However, both in terms of scope and number of participants the organization has reached far beyond my expectations. It was not easy to choose 10 ideas that would get to the finals. It will be much harder to choose the winner.” The Woolmark Company General Manager Stuart McCullough expressed that the contest provided an opportunity to spread the benefits of Merino wool. The winner of the contest who will be the owner of prize award of 10 thousand euro will be announce in Outdoor Retailer which will be organized in Denver, USA on the 9th November 2018. The Woolmark Performance Contest invites the students who study in various specialty areas from product design, industrial design, advanced materials and performance/product engineering to the future of textile, innovations and new practices. Woolmark Performance Contests are also open to Turkish students and both the winner and his/her school gets an award of 10.000 euro.

12 Students are in Global Final Stage

On the other hand, after the three semi-finals happened in Hong Kong, London and New York, 12 names who are granted to compete in global final of 2018-19 International Woolmark Contest are announced. The names who are chosen amongst more than 300 applications from 46 different countries will fight off for the first place in global final which will be organized in London in February 2019. One menswear and one womenswear fashion designers who win the contest will have a chance to have mentorship from global expert committee, display their products and be invited to gain license from Woolmark who is one of the well-known textile fiber brands and who provides assurance in genuine and global fiber quality to consumers.
