
CTN Center brought the Turkish textile manufacturers, ready wear and retail representatives and the logistics industry together via the conference titled The Present and Future of Textile. The development of the Turkish textile industry and opportunities were discussed at the conference organized on 16 October at Marriott Asia Hotel in Istanbul. The conference was organized with the participation of Süfyan Emiroğlu, the Industry General Manager of Turkish Republic’s Science and Technology Ministry; Fahri Paslı, the Istanbul Region Vice General Manager; Ercan Hardal, Vice President of LASIAD; Benan Çalabakul, Murat Özpehlivan, executive board members of LASİAD; Reşat Gülen, President of ISO Profession Commitee; Osman Nuri Canik, deputy chairman of UTİB; Ali Ulvi Orhan, President of OTİAD; Fevzi Çakmak, General Secretary of UND; Deniz Gökçe, economist; Besim Özbek, Purchase Manager of Bossa; Nilgün Özdemir, General Manager of Ekoteks; Ramazan Yavuz, Project Responsible of LASİAD and many other industry representatives.
The opening speech of the event sponsored by Batu Lojistik was made by CTN Centre Group CEO, Mr.Evgeny Oakes, who expressed that the event firstly organized will become stronger with each edition. Süfyan Emiroğlu, the Industry General Manager of Turkish Republic’s Science and Technology Ministry pointed out that the Turkish economy is growing quickly and its strength in exports is increasing. Emiroğlu reminded that the textile industry has an export target of 100 billion dollars for 2023 and noted that the interest of foreign companies to the Turkish textile industry increased considerably in the last 6 months.
Benan Çalabakul, the executive board member of LASIAD making assessment about the Russian-Turkish relations and the membership of Russia to WTO membership informed about the commercial relations with Russia and the problems. Çalabakul urging that Laleli region is undertaking an important responsibility as a bridge for the trade with Russia also explained the mew tax legislation for textile products in Russia.
Ali Ulvi Organ, President of Osmanbey Textile Industrialist Businessmen Association talked about the changes experienced by the industry and criticized the additional customs duties on imported textile products. Orhan stated that the crisis experienced in Europe also influenced Osmanbey badly; “Companies operating within the industry has two options. They will either be a goof manufacturer or a good marketer. Even if we manufacture high value added product in the domestic market, we must be able to manufacture cheap products overseas” he said.
Besim Özbek, Purchase Manager of Bossa, who made a presentation on sustainability and provided information on the textile life cycle and labels. Özbek mentioning about organic cotton production and labels explained cotton production methods to less harm the environment. Fevzi Çakmak, General Secretary of UND made a presentation on logistic industry. Deniz Gökçe, Economist made a detailed presentation on the current state of the Turkish economy at the conference and provided important information about the growth and recession periods of Turkey within the scope of import and export.
Ready wear manufacturers, designers, purchase offices, agencies, retail chains, whole sellers, importers and exporters, production managers, R&D managers, finance representatives, logistic companies, governmental bodies and industrial media showed interest to the event. The next edition of the conference, which was successfully organized, is announced to be held on 16-17 October 2013.
