The Future of the Textile Industry Lies in 'Ecological Products'

Uludağ Textile Exporters' Association (UTİB) contacted the participating companies and informed them about the ongoing Corporate Carbon Footprint Consultancy process within the scope of the Ecological Textiles UR-GE Project which carried out with the support of the Ministry of Commerce .Companies were all given information about the 8-month operational period, the calculations regarding achieving zero carbon targets and about reports.

Textile Industry Focused on Ecological Transformation

While stating that companies would achieve significant gains that have become conscious with the Ecological Textiles UR-GE Project, UTİB Chairman of the Board Pınar Taşdelen Engin said the following, ‘The textile industry that is traditional to Bursa, focusing on ecological transformation. To highlight, many companies put sustainable production, renewable energy and environmental products at the top of their investment agenda. In textile industry classification, where we achieve high production with added value, our gains would be much greater and our gains would be much bigger in consistent with our capability to how well and how efficiently we transform. Within the scope of the project, we give way to our Corporate Carbon Footprint Consultancy process to reduce carbon emissions. In order to achieve the objectives of the UR-GE project and the zero carbon target more quickly, we need to brief our companies effectively about the roadmap they might pursue. In this direction, we will reap the fruits of our consultancy services with the successes we will achieve. I believe that our companies, which have become conscious within the reach of our project, will shape the future of the textile industry as pioneers in transformation. We have made positive contributions to our operational work process by strengthening the connections we have established with our companies through the visits.”

Carbon Footprint Target: Zero Emissions

Semtrio Danışmanlık's Sustainability Director Bekir Çetin said, “With Turkey's ratification of the Paris Agreement and the end of COP 26 held in Glasgow in mid-November, awareness about climate change has escalated both in Turkish textile industry as in all countries and in all industries. In this context, the Carbon Footprint Consultancy process initiated within the scope of Ecological Textiles UR-GE Project is ideal and step taken on time to inform the participating companies. In particular, company-based targets will play a major role in achieving the net zero emission targets of Turkey for 2053.’’ Bekir Çetin, who reviewed closely the production stages of the companies during the field, met with company managers on the importance of potential carbon reduction. Çetin said the following, ‘To reach Paris Agreement conditions, dates set for reducing carbon reduction are important. The first step for companies to achieve carbon reduction is to instruct them on the carbon footprint calculations to create a roadmap for them to follow. With the UR-GE Project, companies will be able to calculate their carbon footprints according to the ISO 14064-1:2018 version and can take example of these figures in their works in the future.’’
