International Textile Summit will be held in Kahramanmaraş on 21-23 November 2013 by Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University and Kahramanmaraş Chamber of Commerce and Industry in coordination with the Eastern Mediterranean Development Agency of the Republic of Turkey.
The three-day summit will be organised at Mehmet Akif Ersoy Cultural Centre and the seminar halls of Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University. Scientific technology exhibition, ‘R&D Market’ will be opened on the first day when opening ceremony was held and presentations were made. In the ensuing days, panels and presentations to be prepared by the academicians, executives of leading firms and public representatives on marketing, production, technology, human resources and energy will take place. The current situation of Textile Technologies and the reflections of academic studies on the sector will be assessed by the specialists. Besides, the projects which have been designed by the academicians and have yet to be commercialised will be exhibited via 'R&D Project Market’ to be held within the scope of the summit.
It is expected that numerous relevant participants such as executives from domestic and foreign companies, academicians, bureaucrats, designers, professional organisations, representatives from non-governmental organisations and media companies will show up in the summit where textile sector will be assessed in all aspects.
30 % of the yarn and 10 % of the fabric manufactured in Turkey are manufactured in Kahramanmaraş, one of the provinces that have made progress in the textile sector. In Kahramanmaraş, textile sector always ranked at the top during the 30-year industrialisation period and it has about 300 firms established with basic investments including yarn, weaving, knitting, apparel and dyeing-finishing. According to the data of 2012, 14 % of 51 textile firms included in the biggest 500 industrial entities of Turkey was constituted by the textile manufacturers of Kahramanmaraş. With the incentives received in the period of 2011-2013, Kahramanmaraş which embodies 15 % of the textile investments and grows ever increasingly with 20 % of the total investment amount in Turkey (14 billion Turkish Liras) provides employment opportunities for 22 thousand individuals in the field of textile and apparel. Hosting the summit with such features at hand, Kahramanmaraş will make a great contribution to the region and Turkey.
