Gathering the most important figures of the world leather sector, Istanbul Leather Fair (İDF) was held in TÜYAP Fair Convention and Congress Centre on 21-23 November 2013 by the Turkish Leather Foundation (TÜRDEV). At İDF 2013 opened by Ruken Mızraklı, the Chairman of TÜRDEV, world famous designers exhibited their workshop works.13 models led by Ece Gürsel, Giselle Reinberg nd Tuğçe Dural exhibited the designs made by the students of the Department of Textile of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Marmara University under the theme of “Botanic Gardens” to the guests with two fashion shows at Istanbul Leather and Fur Fair. Different designs of students were also exhibited as a good example of university-industry cooperation.
150 firms, 30 of which were foreign companies, participated in the fair which was held in parallel to 2023 vision of the leather industry. Firms from America, Austria, China, Iran, Spain, Italy, Canada, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Ukraine and Greece took part in the fair. It was visited by 20 thousand sector professionals from Europe, America and Russia.The participant portfolio of the fair included leather ready-to-wear, fur ready-to-wear, bag and suitcase manufacturers, leather craft, belt, leather, fur manufacturers and sellers, unprocessed leather manufacturers, leather chemicals manufacturers and sellers, fur and leather processing machines manufacturers and sellers, ready-to-wear machines manufacturers and sellers, finishing ateliers, accessories manufacturers and sellers, sub-industry firms and designers.
Leather met Art
The concept of ‘Art Meets Leather’ was among the works making the fair of this year special. For the first time in Turkey, outstanding figures of the contemporary art, Lolita Asil with her leather table titled “Evrensel”, Suzy Hug Levy with her leather tables and sculptures titled “Derilim” and sculptor Yücel Kale with his leather sculpture “Flora” as well as the works of art created especially for İDF 2013 showed up in the fair. The latest collections of such brands as Mefi, Adamo by Siren Ertan, Armando Diaz, Rafaello, Temer, Violenzia and Studio Vogue were presented with the Fashion Show prepared under the theme of “Unlimited Leather” with the choreography of Uğurkan Erez.The panel titled “Made in Turkey & Made in Italy, Synergy Opportunities in the Market; Leather + Creativity = Luxury” was also held with the participation of Erdal Matraş, Chairman of Turkish Leather Industrialists Association, Ece Sükan, Creative Advisor and Fashion Editor and Gianluca Cantaro, Chief Editor of Italian Vogue Uomo, while Leyla Alaton, a member of the Governing Board of Alarko Holding was the moderator.
