The textile sector playing an important role for the region's economy provides employment opportunity for the local community. The city where the majority of the population is employed in the textile sector stands out especially with the studies conducted in the yarn sector.
In Kahramanmaraş where the private sector investments were started in 1984, the industrialization focuses on textile sector in general. The developments of technology and quality in the textile sector, which is the most developed sector in region's economy, are above the Turkish standards In this city, the textile sector, which is capable of competing in terms of technology and quality in the global textile markets, is approaching to become a center of international raw material. The sector plays an important role for the growth of the country and city in terms of economy. Kahramanmaraş meets not only a large part of the yarn production in Turkey, but also it has a significant position for the woven fabrics production. Kahramanmaraş meets 30 % of the yarn production
A lot of People Are Employed in the Fields of Textile and Garment
In the city, 249 companies operate in the field of textile and garments. In the companies, 22,581 people are employed in total. In total, 82 companies operate in the field of yarn; 159.173 tons per year in the field of ring yarn and 246.007 tons per year in the field of open-end yarn. In Kahramanmaraş, 26 weaving factories have 48,675,053 meters of denim and 154,640,046 meters of fabric production capacity. In the fields of knitting and fabric which are another sub-sector of the textile and apparel industry, 43 companies have a production capacity of 113.207 tons per year. When we consider the gin sector, we see that there is a production capacity of 26,000 tons per year in this field. In the other fields of region under the title of dye-bleaching factories, annual production volumes are as follows; 14,085 tons for yarn dyeing , 3,612 tons for fiber dyeing, 52.695 for knitting and 66.415 for fabric dyeing; and, 11,747 tons for knitting printing, 4,392 tons for fabric printing, 45,574 tons for knitting bleaching, 39,873 tons for fabric bleaching.
Furthermore, approximately 2,920 people are employed in 26 companies operating in the field of garment. Having such annual production volumes as 12,582,000 pieces for T-shirt production,4,142,000 pieces for trousers production, 200000 pieces for skirt production, 120000 pieces for suit production, 15440 pieces for working clothes production, 800000 pieces for shirts, 200000 pieces for tracksuit and pieces for underwear production, the garment factories have significant business lines in this region.
Positive Developments in Exports
The textile sector plays an important role for strengthening the structure of the country with its employment opportunities, the value added created during the production and the international trade and economic power. The textile industry, which positively contributed to the the process of industrialization experienced by developed countries in 18th, provides the same function as the developing countries today. Another important point is that the increase of the share of textile production and trade of developing countries is better than compared to the developed countries. This rate stands out as 100 percent in Asia and 75 percent between the years 1980-2000.
Furthermore, we see positive developments in Turkey. In Kahramanmaraş which is one of the most developed cities in the field of textile, the 72 percent of the employment is met by the textile sector. In the field of textiles and raw materials in 2012, the export figure stands out as 581,163 million dollars with an increase of 1.5 percent compared to 2011.
The Second Kahramanmaraş Organized Industrial Zone
In KOSB (Kahramanmaraş Organized Industrial Zone) where 74 companies operate, there are mainly textile companies. In the organized industrial zone where 21 textile companies operate, we see the companies operating in the field of metal industry following the textile sectorIn KOSB, We also see companies producing metal cooking utensils, industrial lubricants, corrugated cardboard, corn chips, polystyrene packaging and insulating material.
In Kahramanmaraş Organized Industrial Zone where Approximately 6,750 people are employed, the studies are conducted for contributing to the region's economy. In the region, 557,767,080 million dollars of investment was completed and the other investment of $ 200,000,000 million is continued. In Kahramanmaraş Organized Industrial Zone where there is no place to new factories, it is aimed that the Second Kahramanmaraş Organized Industrial Zone will be constituted on an area of 532 hectares in Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş.
