Kahramanmaraş International Textile Summit

Between 21-23 November 2013 with the coordination of the Eastern Mediterranean Development Agency ( DOĞAKA), Kahramanmaraş Chamber of Commerce (KMTSO) and Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University (KSÜ) "International Textile Summit" was held. Tekstil Dünyası Publishing Group closely monitored the successful summit which brought together the textile sector from Turkey and around the world. The symposium which faced an intense interest, is scheduled simultaneously for the second time with the KTM 2014 textile machinery exhibition which will be held for the first time.

The opening of the summit which brought together the academics, industry-leading company managers and public representatives was held at Kahramanmaraş Mehmet Akif Ersoy Cultural Center. The keynote speakers of the event were Kahramanmaraş Governor Şükrü Kocatepe, DOĞAKA Deputy Secretary-General Onur Yıldız, Sütçü Imam University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Fatih Karaaslan, KMTSO Chairman of the Board of Directors Kemal Karaküçük.

Governor Şükrü Kocatepe mentioned in his opening speech that Kahramanmaraş is one of the locomotive province “So far the investments made in our province, received incentives and indicators and figures in industrial performances shows that our Kahramanmaraş has significant improvements with increasing momentum. In this summit, developments in the industry, technological developments, changes in the market expectations which will be spoken in the summit, will be very helpful. I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed to this summit.

KSÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Fatih Karaaslan,underlined to lead in the textile sector for Kahramanmaraş as an internationally renowned, the university should be in cooperation with the industrialists, saying " Recently there are beautiful developments in our country. The reason is the state encourages our people towards to new ideas, to find solutions and make appropriate production. Our desire is, our city which is now a textile center to meet internationally renowned brands. For this, I think its time to give the necessary attention to make technology transfer,  fashion and design activities. We, as a university in our city, established TEK-MER with businessmen, we have implemented Technopolis, we have accredited our central laboratories on health, environment, soil, plants and textile issues.”

KMTSO President Kemal Karaküçük said, since the beginning of the 80s which the market economy began to dominate, Kahramanmaraş is providing vertical growth by using the industry incentives right. Karaküçük stating that the city's industry started with weaving "About 12 percent of textile investments made in Turkey since 1980 was made to Kahramamaraş, especially with the increased investments through Customs Union, it started to provide 35 percent of Turkey's total production in the spinning sector, 10 percent of woven fabrics. Today the unemployment in our country dropped from about 14 percent to 10 percent, the state approaching to the textile sector, shows positive results as the annual textile exports reaching to 14 billion dollars. Since 2008, textile investments with incentive certificates increases 5 times with annual 800 million dollars, to 5 billion dollars annually and during the 2008-2013 period with additional 100 thousand employment reached from 325 thousand to 432 thousand gives the sector a strategic sense.”

DOĞAKA Deputy Secretary-General Onur Yıldız expressed that  the competitive structure of technology-based  textile industry shows a stronger outlook compared to other sectors. Yıldız emphasizing that this competitive environment makes the sector more vulnerable “In the textile industry with the highest value of the region's foreign trade and employment, to advantage in international competition and in order to play a decisive role in the sector, R&D works to reduce input and energy costs and parallel to this, technological progress seems important. So far, in our province, projects such as Investigation of Production of Industrial and Technological Infrastructure of Kahramanmaraş, Agricultural Investment and Production strategic plan, Kuyumcukent Feasibility Study and Solid Waste Management has been made. I would like to thank the panelists who came from within and outside the region, sharing their valuable contributions and present my respects to all participants.”

Leaders Who Directs Textile

After the opening speeches with Prof. Dr. Ayşe Okur's moderation “Leaders Who Directs Textile" panel was held.  Valuable names of the textile industry such as Kipaş Holding Chairman of the Board of Directors Hanifi Öksüz, İTHİP Chairman of the Board of Directors İsmail Gülle, ATHİP Chairman of the Board of Directors Zeki Kıvanç shared their experiences with the participants.

İsmail Gülle underlined despite the global crisis which has engulfed the world, how the Turkish textile sector successfully survived this period "Turkey's 2009 crisis, caught a quick starting. The crisis has revealed America and European Union's true colors, they showed how they live with a painted economy. I'm glad that Turkey experiences this crisis in 2009. They say in every calamity there is a benefaction, this calamity revealed how production and employment is important in Turkey."

Hanefi Öksüz expressed how textile is an important sector by saying: "Textiles is one of Turkey's main industry. This sector has created each capital accumulation of other industries.”

ADASO and Mediterranean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters' Association (ATHİB)  President Zeki Kıvanç said about textile sector: "The dead or alive needs our sector. Textile is a sector that which can not be given up by the states, governments nor citizens.”

R & D and Incentives

The 1st day of the symposium continued with panels and sessions in Mehmet Akif Ersoy Cultural Center. In the R&D and Incentives and Turkey Textile Policy panel conducted by Assoc. Dr. Yasemin Korkmaz, Ministry of Development Planning Specialist Ç. Emrah Öngüt made a presentation about 10th Plan Period Textile and Clothing Industry, SUN Textile R&D Centre Manager Birkan Yurdakul made the presentation of R&D Conept For Textile Sector, Murat Karataş from Bossa Denim R&D Centre made a presentation about R&D Center Gain For Textile.

Retail and Procurement Structure in Textile

The session which held with Prof.Dr.Fatma Göktepe's moderation, Taha Holding Weaving Business Manager Çiğdem Mutlu, passed information about management of procurement and organization systems. Baltaş Management Training Consultant Yasemin Başar, took place in the session as spaker with Leadership That Turns Potential to Perforrmance presentation.

Raw Materials in Sector and New Trends

The Raw Materials In Textile Sector and New Trends session which was in the symposium program was directed by Assoc.Dr.Yasemin Korkmaz. Prof.Dr.Fatma Göktepe from Namık Kemal University made a presentation about Artificial Muscles and Special Yarns To Generate Electricity. Ak-Pa Textile Business Development and Marketing Manager Hakan Sözen, made the presentation of Global Textile Fiber Production for the Years 1970-2050, Polystar Textile  Textile Co., Ltd.. Sti. General Manager Öny Yıldız made the presentation of Polyamide Fibres and Technical Textiles Applications.

Sustainability and Energy Efficiency in Textile

Mark&Spencer Plan A Turkey Coordinator Mehmet Güner, passed informations about the company's sustainability activities in the field with the presentation Mark&Spencer Plan A "Because There Is No Plan B.” Energy and Business Development Professional Akif Aydoğar made a presentation about energy efficiency and SASA Director of Technology made a presentation about sustainability. The panel was moderated by Prof.Dr.Abdülkadir Bilişik.

Kahramanmaraş Denim From Tradition to Innovation

On the evening of the first day, after the gala dinner sponsored by Kipaş Holding, Şirikçioğlu Mensucat and D-Plus, "Kahramanmaraş Denim From Tradition to Innovation" themed fashion show and folk dances were presented. All of the creations prepared from new denim fabrics in the sector and wash fabrics were produced in Kahramanmaraş, finally the denim show prepared by fashion designer Ahmet Giray was presented to the audience.

Savio, Gave The University a Textile Machine as A gift

The second day of the symposium continued with the sessions held in Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Senem Ayşe Conference Hall. Before the session which recent developments in spinning machines were discussed with the moderation of Kipaş Holding Yarn Group Manager Ahmet Duygal, delivery ceremony which Savio Spa gave a textile machine as a gift to KSÜ Textile Engineering Department was held. After the ceremony, Erciyes University, lecturer Assoc. Dr.Huseyin Gazi Örtlek, made a presentation about Overview of Air-Jet Spinning Systems. Sho Kittamura from Murata Machinery Company and Elvio Re Sarto from Leopfe Brothers Company, shared the technologies and innovations they have developed with the participants.

Recent Advances in Finishing / Coating Process

The second day of the sessions the latest developments in pretreatment and dyeing process session was moderated by Assoc.Dr. Aysun Akşit. Prof.Dr.E. Perrin A.Kumbasar, made a presentation about Photochromic Dyes in Textile Materials Located Between New Trends in Textile Dyeing Applicability.  From Brückner&Then's Turkey Representative Inter Tekstil Sami Çakırca, made ​​a presentation about the developments in Brückner Ram and Then Airflow dyeing machines. Namık Kemal University lecturer Assoc..Dr.Rıza Atav, made a presentation about New Technologies in the Textile Dyeing.

Recent Developments in Weaving Mesh Sector

Yavuz Ağaoğlu from Teksel Tekstil, made a presentation about the innovations in supreme, three yarns, rib, interlock knitting machines. During the session, Erciyes University Lecturer Prof. Dr.. Abdülkadir Bilişik, made a presentation about The Properties Of Stitched Woven Fabric, E-Glass and Polyester Composites. Assoc.Dr.Levent Önal, gave information about three-dimensional spacer fabric technology and its application areas. The session was moderated by Assoc.Dr.Pelin Gürkan Ünal.

Technical Textiles and Future Perspectives for Turkey

Technical Textiles and Future Perspectives for Turkey panel was held by Prof.Dr.Ali Kireçci. Prof.Dr.Merih Sarıışık from Dokuz Eylül University, made a presentation about the latest developments in medical textiles. Assoc.Dr.Yasemin Korkmaz from Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam Univeristy, shared general informations about technical textiles. Dupont Country Manager Tufan Tiryakioğlu, passed his experiences to the visitors about technical textiles.

Latest Developments in Finishing and Coating Operations

The Recent Developments in Finishing and Coating Operations panel which was on the second day in the program, was moderated by Prof.Dr.Merih Sarıışık. Gaziantep University lecturer Assoc. Dr. Cem Güneşoğlu, gave information about microcapsules applications in textile finishing processes. Assoc.Dr.Onur Balcı, passed the latest developments about silicone softeners characterization and moisture transmission properties with a presentation. Norman Ltd. Product Development Manager Aydın Oruç, made a presentation about laminating technologies and its application areas.

Nanotechnology in Textile & Technical Products and Future Perspectives

At the Nanotechnology In Textile & Technical Products and Future Perspectives session moderared by Assoc.Dr.Cem Güneşoğlu, Prof.Dr.Ali Kireçci, made a presentation about A New Method for Anti-bacterial Gabardine Fabric Production. Tepar Textile Co., Ltd. General Manager Hasan Tepe, shared his experiences in the textile sector with visitors. Assoc.Dr.Tuba Alpyıldız from Dokuz Eylül University, gave informations about Textile solutions in prevention of the effects of electromagnetic fields.

Turkish Textile Machinery Sector and Its Future

On the third day of the symposium, which the first two days was highly successul, chairman and members of Textile Machinery and Accessories Manufacturers Association (TEMSAD) made a panel about Turkish Textile Machinery Sector and Its Future. At the panel which was efficient, TEMSAD Chairman and Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO) Councilor Adil Nalbant, presented solutions for textile machinery sector problems. TEMSAD Vice-president Mehmet Ağrikli, referring to the current problems of Turkish machinery manufacturers shared needs to be done and solutions. TEMSAD Vice-President Numan Gürel, with the speech where he discussed the status of the Turkish textile machinery sector, passed the sector's challenges to the visitors.

Latest Developments in Spinning Machinery

The International Textile Summit ended with a session, latest developments in spinning machines were shared and presentations were made by world-renowned spinning machine manufacturers. Lakshmi Export Manager C. Arunachalam made a presentation about The innovations that LMW company added value in yarn production. Uster Regional Sales Manager Hilmi Can Gülgör and Uster Sales and Technology Manager Ahmet Meriç, made a presentation of Uster with a general introduction and gave extensive information about USTER® QUANTUM 3 which is the most important element of total quality management in the spinning mill. Erbel Regional Sales Manager Erman Coşkun, introduced R 60 new open-end spinning machine which has superior features in quality and productivity. Savio SPA Sales Manager Gabriele Tonin, gave information about Polar E Premium winding machine and innovations in winding technology.
