Being in a cold war state for more than a half century, India and Pakistan share the same culture, although with different understandings, but still fails to agree. While the hostility between two countries continues in the historical context, business and fashion worlds launched a new project so as to end the negativities between two cultures.
Working on this project, Maliha Rehman said that she believe that steps taken by the pioneering fashion designers of two countries and possible cooperation activities will constitute a cultural bridge and expressed that, “Fashion admiration of two countries whose fashion understandings, senses and styles are distinguished in the details towards one another cannot be underestimated. Import and export undermined due to the disagreements between the governments, in turn, decrease the purchase power of the consumer as a result of the excessive taxes.”
Adding that this situation forces the buyers to head towards local alternatives, Rehman expressed that, “The fact that the activities planned for uniting the Indian and Pakistani fashion stages in 2008 and 2010 were cancelled due to mutual distrust interrupted the shopping as well. Despite all these, fashion exchanges between two countries continue without cease although on a graph full of descents and ascents. While numerous famous Indian brands are getting prepared for entering into the Pakistani market, numerous Pakistani designers are already being sold in multi-brand stores in the Indian market.
