Cotton Usa Conference for the Turkish spinning industry from 12 to 14 June to US and Chinese cotton policies; responsible cotton production through ‘Cotton Leads™’ and how to maximize new business opportunities through the cotton supply chain. Many participants confirmed they met new contacts during the conference while others took advantage of the occasion to make new cotton purchases.
Following an opening address by Mr. Kevin Latner, Executive Director, Cotton Council International (CCI), participants were briefed in detail on Turkish economy, cotton and textile situation by Mr. Murat Yazıcı from Ministry of Economy. President and CEO of National Cotton Council, Dr. Mark Lange discussed prospects for the global cotton market in view of changes in US and Chinese cotton policy since these are the key factors effecting the world cotton market. An in-depth update of the world cotton production, trade and consumption situation was given by American Cotton Shippers’ Association (ACSA) Vice Chairman, Mr. Bobby Walton; Mr. Hank Reichle, AMCOT, gave a thorough evaluation of cotton quality changes over the last 10 years; followed by Mr. Mark Lewkowitz presenting American Pima and Supima® Brand.
Participants received a perspective on the cotton garment sector in an insightful presentation by Mr. Cem Negrin, President of TGSD; and the Cotton Usa Supply Chain Marketing Program was explained by Mr. Will Bettendorf including panel discussion with program members, Matesa and Uspar. The rationale and positioning behind Cotton Leads™, the new collaborative marketing initiative between American and Australian cotton industries promoting responsible cotton production, was explained in detail. Mills were interested to learn how the whole cotton supply chain could become a part of this environmentally friendly program at no cost.
