At the Textile Circularity panel held within the scope of the conference, Feridun Ayırga, Commercial Director of Coats EMEA, marked the biggest challenges faced by the industry associate with sustainability such as sorting and recycling and said that Coats has made it easy to re-cycling with the innovative and sustainable yarns it has developed.

Sustainability Talks Istanbul, run as hybrid on November 25, focused on circularity, traceability and recycling in the textile and fashion industry this year. Coats, the world's leading industrial yarn manufacturer, participated at the conference where the best practices were shared amongst industrialists. Feridun Ayırga, Commercial Director of Coats EMEA Region, who participated in the Circularity in Textile panel as a speaker, pointed out that recyclable textile products should be designed and informed about their innovative products as a response to the industry demand.
'All players in the industry should work together to achieve circularity'
Feridun Ayırga, who gave information about the recycling process since in most of the textile products different materials are in use or composites are brought together into its processes, said the following, ‘’The future of clothing and apparel should meet future of recycling. As Coats, we set ourselves around three main topics to support the industry. First, yarns should accommodate the fabric in terms of material type. Second, yarns we produce should make it easy for easy and cost-effective removal of seams. Third, textile materials, that are recycled, should serve as a base for the yarn types. Textile industry has been going through complex journey. So, it is impossible for industry actors to achieve sustainability goals by themselves. To complete the circularity cycle, strong collaborations are essential.’’
'We make recycling easier by developing water-soluble yarn'
While talking about the circular economy spearheaded by them with EcoVerde which they produce from 100% recycled polyester and with the 100% Lyocell yarn EcoRegen which is compatible with the materials used in textile products, Feridun Ayırga said the following, ‘’The textile products applying these solutions can recycle without any need to remove the seam. With our new product, EcoCycle, we have developed one of the first water-soluble yarns of its kind. The soon-to-be-coming EcoCycle is designed to dissolve even while washing at high temperatures. Thus, at its end lifecycle its components can easily be separated and be recycled. To go beyond these exciting solutions, Coats invests in innovation, working closely with the industry to create more sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions for the entire supply chain from start to finish. Because the major focus on circularity should take place at every phase of the value chain from the garment design since every process in the chain has a part in this.’’
Coats recently announced that it is accelerating and strengthening its journey towards a sustainable future. It set larger targets in scope, scale and speed, focusing on net zero emissions and circularity. To highlight, the leading industrial yarn manufacturer will invest $10 million over the next five years to accelerate the development of green technologies and materials to achieve its goals faster. Coats Asia Innovation Center, located in Shenzhen, China, will have a new mission and focus on the application of biomaterials. Coats in the long term aiming to manufacture all its products with environmentally friendly materials and applied chemicals.
