Ready wear sector will enable Turkey to reach its export target of $ 500 billion by 2023

Istanbul Ready Wear and Garment Exporters’ Association (İHKİB) organised the 35th Year Loyalty Night with the motto of “We Save for Future”. In the night where about 1000 exporters were hosted, 7 individuals who served as chairmen since the establishment of IHKIB and 21 enterprises who have recorded export volumes exceeding $500 million in the last 13 years were awarded prizes.

Participating in the organisation, Zafer Çağlayan, the Minister of Economy, touched upon the 2023 targets of Turkey and said that: “We consider 2023 as a date when Turkey will manage to record an export volume of $ 500 billion. Garment and ready wear sector will be one of the biggest locomotives of this target.”

We will continue to be the honour of this country

Hikmet Tanrıverdi, the Chairman of İHKİB, stated that they will exceed their export target of $ 60 billion at the centenary of the Republic of Turkey and continue to be the honour of this country.

He added that: “With the perspective of ‘Being the servant of working is a must to be the master of knowledge and success!’, we rose the price of a kilo of ready wear product to $ 25 from $ 3 (20 years ago) as one of 3 sectors creating the highest amount of added value.”

The export volume of our sector exceeded $17 billion despite many challenges including the obstacles related to access to raw material. We became a part of the social solution in Turkey in spite of our employment problems and ever-increasing additional burdens and stood out as the sector employing the highest number of women in addition to making investments in underdeveloped regions. We turned out to be the honour of Turkey by selling our products or opening new enterprises in 185 countries worldwide. If the recognition level of this country has increased in the world in recent years and it has an improved public opinion, no need to be modest, the biggest share of this success pertains to our ready wear exporters.”

Textile shoulders export

Mehmet Büyükekşi, the Chairman of Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM) who also participated in the event stated that IHKIB has been serving for the export of Turkey for 35 years and added that ready wear and garment sector is one of the leading sectors of Turkey in terms of production, employment and export.

Expressing that this sector has a great place in the current position of Turkey in terms of export, Büyükekşi added that: “In this challenging year, ready wear sector is included among the sectors shouldering our export as always. 2013 export volume of the sector increased by 9 % in the first 11 months and reached $ 16 billion. We will close 2013 with an export volume of $ 17, 5 billion. We trust in our ready wear sector for the upcoming year. Ready wear sector will continue to play the most critical role in our targets for 2023.”
