Turkish textile sector closed 2017 with 10, 1 billion dollars export by protecting its position as a supplier ranking 2nd of Union European and 7th of the world İsmail Gülle, president of İstanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters Association (İTHİB), shares 2017 performance of the sector, targets for 2018 and the projects to be adopted.
Target: Turkey Having Foreign Trade Surplus
İsmail Gülle who states that their target is a Turkey that has foreign trade surplus with 7/ 24 export for more welfare, development, employment, production and investment, says “Turkish textile sector realized 74 thousand dollar export per moment. If we adopt our target for Turkey making 7/ 24 uninterrupted export, we can raise Turkey’s export number too high.”
Value- Added Revealed With Numbers
Gülle who highlights that Turkey has raised with export and they carry out production and investment for export and create employment, reveals value- added made by textile sector with numbers. İsmail Gülle tells “We realized a value- added export for a hard market like USA above half billion dollars even 5 dollars unit price per kilogram, 866 million dollars with 5 dollars unit price per kilogram for Italy and 10 dollars per kilogram for Sri Lanka.”
Gülle who utters that Turkish textile sector makes export above the average unit prices at import for EU countries, shares the following details “Average unit price of EU at textile import is 4, 2 Euro. And average unit price at textile import of Germany which is the biggest country of EU is 4, 9 Euro. Germany’s unit price at textile import from Turkey is 5, 5 Euro.”
200 Billion Dollars Foreign Trade Surplus At Textile
Gülle who states that textile sector is one of the sectors which closes the current deficit which is one of the problems of Turkish economy and tells this with numbers, maintains his words as follows: “We are one of the sectors closing the current deficit of Turkey. In 2017, we gave foreign trade surplus as 1, 6 billion dollars at home textile, 1 billion dollars at knitted fabric, 850 million dollars at textile fabrics and 120 million dollars at technical textile. Turkish textile and ready- made clothings sectors gave 200 billion dollars foreign trade surplus in total in last 20 years.”
Africa; New Favorite of Turkey
Gülle who reminds that Africa is the new Turkish market, by stating that they participated to the trade board carried out to Africa, says they will pick the fruits of positive contacts soon. Gülle says “Today, Africa’s import from word is 470 billion dollars. And Turkey’s total export to Africa is 11 billion dollars. As being textile sector, we are realizing 1 billion dollar of this export” and finishes his words by saying they will increase their share in African market in 2018.
