In the recent years, with the British clothing brands forming a commercial partnership with Turkey and afterwards capturing a success in the manufacturing and retail sector, on May 30 in London, a Fashion and Apparel conference is going to be held, in the cooperation of British Chamber of Commerce and Turkey Clothing Manufacturers Association (TGSD). At the conference held under the name of “Fashion and Apparel Zone: Turkey”, Turkey’s elite fashion designers and apparel industrialists, coming together with Britain’s fashion designers and textile brands, will be searching for ways to increase bilateral trade opportunities.
The statements made by British Chamber of Commerce President Chris Gaunt and TGSD President Cem Nergin, expresses that Turkey’s apparel and retail industry is offering great opportunities for British brands and that based on these observations they decided o organize such a conference. Chris Gaunt explains, “This facility will benefit British companies, in learning how to develop and cooperate operationally in the Turkish retail sector and the apparel industry.”
Cem Negrin depicts that, “Firms from Turkey attending this event, in collaboration with British firms will be capturing a information-sharing platform on the way to brand globalization. Reminding that Turkey had ended 2013 with a 17.4 billion dollar amount of exports, Negrin stated that there was still a long way ahead of them in Europe where 75% of the exports had been made.
With the event “Fashion and Apparel Zone: Turkey”, the existing relationships with British brands and purchasing groups is expected to be further strengthened. According to the TGSD figures, in 2013 around 2.2 billion dollars worth of garment exports had been carried out in England. When comparing with 2012 it is seen that there has been a decline of 1.8 % of exports to this country and with Turkey, showing an 8.5 % increase in its total garment exports that year, we understand that there is a necessity to revise this situation of both countries in terms of trade. With the event that will be held in London the aim is to compensate the loss of 2013 and exceed beyond the expectancies.
At the conference to be held, the topics will be providing result-oriented spots such as purchasing, sourcing and manufacturing, export, retailing, chain stores in Turkey including finding partners from Turkey. At the meeting guiding information will be shared for companies wanting to grow their brand. The participants of the Fashion and Apparel Conference will be consisting of the company officials of Turkey and the United Kingdom, who have a decisive position in the fashion and textile industry.
