The President of the Fashion and Apparel Federation Hüseyin Öztürk offered solutions to counter the overall impact of COVID 19 outbreak in the Turkish textile industry.

“It is Vital to Safeguard Production and Employment”

The COVID19 epidemic that came out in Wuhan, China, was once spread to the world regions rapidly and turned into a global crisis. This epidemic was also expanded into Turkey geographically and was the main reason for loss of many lives. Global isolation period has coexisted in Turkey with other world regions and as a consequence of its’ implementation, shortages in manufacture and trade in the sector experienced. One of the sectors that have been affected the most was textiles.

Hüseyin Öztürk, MHGF Chairman of the Board, also made critical statements regarding the rapid recovery of the textile industry from the situation it had fallen into. Öztürk stated that 30 billion dollars of exports were realized in total when incorporating leather, ready-to-wear and shoes sectors. We are currently representing 30 member association and over 9 thousand three hundred company whom have been associated with the federation. We are conducting teleconferencing sessions with the regional presidents about the aftermath of the crisis and get their evaluations on the issue. All sectors have experienced a stagnant situation, not including sectors like food, health and logistics. The majority of the textile and ready-made clothing companies, which had reduced its’ capacity nearly to 50 percent due to the closure of the physical stores of national and global chains, have stopped.

“We Should Make Extraordinary Decisions and Urgently Apply Those”

Underlining that the significant importance of the maintaining its’ strong and stable position in the sector to revive the economy rapidly after the coronavirus epidemic, “We support and appreciate preventive measures taken by our government exclusively in the field of health. Economically, in this urgent circumstance, we must make extraordinary decisions and implement them quickly. According to the experts' predictions, the overall effect of the virus will diminish by the late April or mid-May. However, after the negative effect of the virus completely contained, its’ effects on the economy will not go away accordingly. We need to make ourselves ready to take new actions applicable to every field by putting the economy at the top of the subject.’’

“Everyone has to Take Lessons”

MHGF President Hüseyin Öztürk continued his speech with the following, “Everyone should take a lesson from the epidemic. We need to review our strengths and weaknesses and apply what needs to be done to sustain our daily life and revive our economy after the crisis. We should implement preventive measures with a plan of action to overcome this obstacle by focusing on and by executing our own strengths and advantages by today.  We should follow the same schedule in economy, just as the decisions made by the scientific committee on the health conditions linked to the coronavirus and put them into progress. It is vital to safeguard production and employment. ”
