Colourful pants which have stormed through the world men’s fashion in the last two years managed to enter in the preferences of the Turkish men. As in Italy which directs fashion, Turkish men prefer darker colours more than vivid colours and this creates a huge change in the style of the Turkish men. Setting aside the old wide leg trousers and classical jacket style, they prefer the clothes in which they feel the comfort at all hours of the day. They wear the colours and buy skinny fit clothes.
Turks are conservative in terms of colours
Colourful pants are ordered by not only big cities but also all parts of the Anatolia. Volkan Atik, Chairperson of the Governing Board of Ayva, leading firms of the Turkish men’s wear, said that Turkish men are a bit more conservative in terms of colours. Atik added that: “Men prefer darker shades of green and claret red. The share of colourful pants reached 30 % in our total sales amount of pants in the last two years. We sold 100 thousand colourful pants in the last four seasons.” Stating that Turkish men have now created a concept called “smart casual”, Atik expressed that the old way of dressing focussed either on jeans or suits were replaced by a style focused on comfort throughout the day.”
They respond to change
Mehtap Edaidi, Chairperson of the Fashion Designers’ Association, said that the Turkish men want to experience a change in the fashion. Stating that they responded to this change late with the influence of the concept of “honour” dominating their character, Elaidi added that: “While wearing colourful clothes was out of question in the past, we currently talk about the shades of the colours that men wear. They embrace change difficultly.” Turkish men also determined a peculiar style in terms of the skinny fit which has become an important trend of the recent years. While the width of the trouser legs of the Italians is 16 cm, that of the Turkish men is 19 cm. Elaidi expressed that: “It is possible to say that the Turks created their own style. However, we have to confess that they are not brave enough.”
