Warm Winter Affects Textile Manufacturers

The temperature of this past winter which was averaged above normal, affected the sales which clothing and footwear industry prepared for the winter season, negatively.

Warm Winter Affects Textile Manufacturers

Due to the high level of temperature in the winter and lack of rain, the textile industry got affected along with agriculture. United Brands Association (BMD) Chairman Hüseyin Doğan stated that the weather this year went better and top wear sales are down, at the same time the weather being warm also created a positive atmosphere in terms of shopping. Doğan stated that due to the weather, the possibility of the new season to start a little earlier may have occured, "The weather being well, made an occasion for the new season productss to enter the stores more earlier. In this regard, a positive situation has emerged for large retails. Even though some brands are facing issues with winter products, generally speaking, selling the summer products without discount, also shopping in nice weathers turns to joy apart from the needs, reflects the industry positively. In total, when we look at the retail, there is not a negativity" said.

Footwear Industry Is In Difficult Situation

Footwear Industrialist' Association of Turkey (TASD) Chairman Hüseyin Çetin, stating that Turkey has the capacity of producing 450 million pairs of shoes, when viewed in consumption per capita is 2.5 pairs. Çetin, by emphasizing how the weather going well jeopardizes the industry, Boots and tick soled winter shoes which the stores made, remained in their hands. Shops are experiencing financial difficulties, this financial difficulties naturally  is reflected to manufacturers and manufacturers receive their share of it. When there is contraction in the domestic market, seems the industry will hang on the export” said.

Çetin, on installment limitations of Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency(BDDK)'s said he wished for installment limitations on shoe sales as well, "Unfortunately in shoes, the option has risen to 18-20 months. This rise  due to open options, the rise of rate, raw material to be indexed to the U.S. dollar exchange rate, puts the industry in difficult situation. Limitation on installments, makes the industry obtain profit” said. Çetin, said that the footwear industry is recorded very quickly like the textile industry and stated that there are increase in exports and the elimination of informality in the industry will be positive in terms of both competition and trade.
