Although apparel market grows constantly in the world, economic problems experienced in the European Union cause postponing of the apparel purchases of European consumers. In other words, while developing economies increase figures of consumption for apparel products in the world through new and willing consumers, current data suggest the consumers in the EU will be more reluctant to spend for apparel in 2014.
Turkish apparel exporters stand out with their increased competitiveness in the European market that declined by 4.9 percent in 2012 and by 1.7 percent in January-June 2013 period. The most notable development in the market, where import from Turkey has risen by 5.2 percent on the basis of value, is the declining predominance of China in the market. The fact that China is the supplier with the highest rate of market loss with 13,9 percent is monitored carefully by not only Turkish exporters, whose market share went up by 11.9 percent, but also other competitors in the market.
Having supplied apparel products worthy of 4.7 billion Euros to the EU market in the first half of 2013, Turkey becomes the supplier of choice by the purchasers both in the EU market and the new rising markets of the world, with its quality products and dynamic organizational power. The positive data from 2013 show that Turkish apparel exporters have strengthened their position in the EU market as preferred suppliers despite poor economic conditions and decreasing demand of consumers.
