A leading province of Germany, NRW manages to draw many firms to the region with its geographical position, economic ties and developed infrastructure. In addition to textile, the province constitutes one of the investment areas of furniture and logistics firms. In the region where 173 foreign-origin projects were realised, a great number of Turkish firms operates. Although NRW observed a decline of 26 % in investments in 2011, it continues to be the attraction centre. It is stated that China is the country making the highest amount of investments in 2012. Making explanations about this issue, General Director of NRW. INVEST Petra Wassner expressed that the Euro and debt crises prevented the establishment of new companies. Stating that 32 Chinese firms started to operate in NRW, Wassner added that China is followed by Middle Eastern and East European countries, Russia and Turkey.
Economic and infrastructure capacity of the region is welcomed by the firms. In a research carried out by Ernst & Young, it is reported that NRW is a popular region for foreign companies. In survey carried out by Ernst & Young on about 500 foreign firms, 96 % of the firms expressed their satisfaction from the region.
SARAR Opened A Store in Königsallee
One of the most well-known brands of Turkey, Sarar opened a store in Konigsallee, the most luxurious shopping centre of Düsseldorf found in NRW region. Standing out as one of the biggest stores in Konigsallee with an area covering 1400 square meters, the store opened by Sarar also distinguishes as the first Turkish store in the region. Making evaluations on this issue, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sarar, Emre Sarar, emphasized that Konigsallee which is one of the most important fashion streets of the world is a perfect marketing space for Sarar.
Except for Sarar, investments of ready wear manufacturers also continue in the region. European online fashion store, Zalando, laid the foundations of its second logistics centre covering an area of 75.000 square meters in Mönchenglad-bach Regiopark. In the logistics centre which will start its test activities at the second half of the year, employment opportunities are expected for 1000 individuals in the long run. The new logistics centre in Mönchengladbach will form a very strong logistics network making shipments to clients in 14 European countries together with centres in Brandenburg and Thüringen. Zalando had opened the first logistics centre designed by the company itself in Erfurt in December, 2012.
