Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO) held a meeting to bring together the leading manufacturers of the textile and ready-made clothing industry and the textile machinery industry.

ISO Chairman Of the Board Members Mr. Erdal, while introducing the meeting, talked about their will to create a synergy efficient result-oriented to get returns in foreign trade with the joint efforts of industry partners from different disciplines all around Turkey and their commitment to management of resources effectively towards reaching their set targets. Bahçıvan also said that meeting on their agenda could have an important impact on the process that has targeted at the speech of industrialists.

Domestic Machinery Should be Preferred in Production

Bahçıvan also underlined domestic machineries in operation that has been a hot debate mentioned in the agenda by ISO Management and said that domestic machineries and their importance for textiles and ready-made industry is a foremost topic that should meet its solutions.

Bahçıvan talked about Turkey as one of the most important textile and ready-to-wear manufacturers and exporters in the world, while sharing his great sorrow on industrialists who could give away their valuable sources in return for investments in technology to foreign hands that may involve huge amount of human capability and input. Bahçıvan said that most of the earnings would move to nations such as South Korea, Germany and Italy.

Stating that the Technology Focused Industry Move would be a significant opportunity to the remedy of issues and problems that they have been struggling to find solutions for years, Bahçıvan expressed his opinion on the necessity of well-presented and well-marketed program.  Bahçıvan, said that ISO is ready to support the works on behalf of the clarifications and modifications carried out in theoretical phase in Ankara to see their operation in practice.

Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology, one of the participants of the meeting, said that ISO has an influence far beyond Istanbul in terms of giving directions to the industry. Stating that they eagerly listened to ISO and evaluated their opinions, which has a solid structure to lead the industry ever since, Kacır talked about great opportunities offered by ISO to have a given chance to consult with industrialists. Kaçır said that with the changes made, the regional development agencies and investment incentives came under the authority of the Ministry of Industry and Technology. In this way, as said, integrative policies are allowed for an industry and technology-oriented development in regional development and investment incentives.

60% of the Incentives Go To Imported Machinery

While stating that as the ministry, granting support through TÜBİTAK and KOSGEB, Kacır said that they are working to manage payments from a single window. While talking about the intense contribution to the 11.Development Plan, their overall target reminded as the type of products produced in Turkey and applied financial grants associated with it. While emphasizing on the machinery sector as one of the area of strength of our nation, he said they could support every sector when to support machinery industry. By giving statistics about their support, he said that %60 per cent of their incentives moving to imported machinery and to stop this negative trend and to enhance the weight of innovation in the sector, he said that they will continue to support machinery industry to increase domestic influence and proportion.

Kaçır also said that, within five years, if they can succeed in production of immediate goods in Turkey, they will be able to will permanently get rid of the current account deficit debate. While mentioning about Textiles as the leading sector discipline with its growth rate in Turkey, Kaçır said that they are importing 1.2 billion dollars’ worth of textile machinery and their will to strengthen the sector via empowering domestic machinery manufacturers to reduce and to control this statistic.

Machine Imports Will Be Reduced

Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology Hasan Büyükdede made a short speech at the opening of the meeting. Reminding that he is also a textile machinery manufacturer, Büyükdede stated that they can focus on the textile machinery sector in the account of demands lodged from the industrialists at the meeting and said that they can always bring new machinery manufacturers to the sector. Büyükdede stated that in this way it would be possible to minimize machinery imports.
