Support for Sustainable Cotton by C&A

C&A which uses cotton within its products manufactured with sustainable agriculture methods ranked among 8 companies not taking part ‘red zone’ in the research carried out by one of Europe’s biggest  brand comparison sites at sustainable and corporate social responsibility field; Rank a Brand as it increased its cotton usage volume 40% in 2015. C&A became the first company to deserve taking part in the yellow zone by getting 9 points on maximum 19, 5. Richard Holland, authorizer of WWF, who evaluated the research result, said “The group in which C&A includes shows the importance of sustainability of cotton for a company. But many of leading companies cannot do this. Though sustainable cotton source usage hasn’t been such easy. Companies cannot have any excuse on not presenting more responsible products for their customers.

As 10- 13% of global cotton source is classified as sustainable, less than 1 of five of this amount can be used as more sustainable cotton in the products. And the rest is sold as ordinary cotton due to the lack of demand of the brands and the companies.

PAN UK, Solidaridad and WWF invited companies for the usage of high volume cotton by saying “The companies which are serious about sustainability need to use 100% more sustainable cotton source in 2020 at the latest.”
