H&M Group aims to present sustainable and renewable changes as being egalitarian and just company in fashion industry, shared its Sustainability Report about 2017 with the public.
H&M Group by sustainable policies focuses on the development of cyclical fashion in which materials are maximized and wastes are minimized. The company continues doing some important work about everyone in the supply chain gets fair jobs. Another important step in H&M Group’s sustainability strategies is determining sustainable innovations, investments and their announcements.
Prominent Elements in the 2017 Sustainability Report
Prominent topics in H&M Groups 2017 Sustainability Report are as follows:
- 35% of H&M ‘s total materials are composed of recycled or sustainable materials.(Last year it was 26%) The goal is to use only those materials in 2030.
- 59% of the cotton used by H&M Group (last year it was 43%) comes from sustainable resources. The goal is to use only this type of cotton in 2020.
- H&M Group used recycled polyesters equal to 100 million plastic bottles.
- H&M presented the first clothes made by recycled coastal wastes in the H&M Conscious Exclusive collection in collaboration with Bionic®
- H&M Group collected 18.000 tons of textile products with clothes collecting initiative. This is equal to 89 million t-shirts. Since 2013 H&M collected 61.000 tons of textile products.
- 96% of H&M Group’s electricity came from renewable resources. The goal is to be climate-friendly in all steps of the supply chain by 2040.
- As a part of 2018 goals, 100% of the supplier firms in Bangladesh made the election of worker representatives through democratic ways. In total, 2882 people were elected and 40% of them were women.
- 227 supplier firms which include more than 375.000 workers implemented the developed systems of salary management.
