‘Leatherish Ideas Leather Design and Production Competition’, which is organized by Aegean Leather and Leather Products Exporters Association for the seventh time this year, aims to increase the quality of design and production of the Turkish leather sector as well as to increase the exports of value-added products. This year’s theme has been as ‘Propaganda’ so as to place the emphasis on genuine leather.
Aegean Leather and Leather Products Exporters Association President Jak Galiko stated that they wanted to develop new applicable ideas in the leather sector, to support young talents and also in the long run to contribute our country in value-added leather production and exports. He also stated that the ‘Leatherish Ideas Leather Design and Production Competition’ is the first competition of this kind at which university students or graduates from textile-fashion design and leather engineering faculties will compete.
Galiko pointed out that the designers prefer to use synthetic and natural fibers in recent times and continued as follows: “We think that leather needs propaganda. So, this year we decided to make our theme Propaganda. It is also important for people’s health to prefer genuine leather instead of synthetic and natural fibers. We want designers to meet leathers.”
The elimination jury will evaluate the designs after the applications to ‘VII. Leatherish Ideas Leather Design and Production Competition’ are completed. The final Show of the Leatherish Ideas Leather Design and Production Competition is planned to be held in October.
The winner team of the competition will receive 10,000 TL, the second runner will receive 6,000 TL and the third one will receive 4,000 TL as rewards. The winner of the competition will also have a scholarship for education abroad, and the engineers that are ranked high in the competition will get internships in the Netherlands.
High Interest to Turkish Leather From Bunka University Fashion Week
Last year, Bunka University which is a leading university in fashion education in Japan gave support to the ‘Leatherish Ideas Leather Design and Production Competition’. Authorities from Bunka University were in the competition jury and at the ‘Bunka University Fashion Week’ which is followed by the whole World and raises important designers, the clothes designed with the leathers sent by Aegean Leather and Leather Products Exporters Association literally swiped the prizes. Nine out of the first ten designs were made by Turkish leathers.
