Çalık Denim, standing out as one of the world’s most significant companies with respect to the production of premium denim fabrics, is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Each year developing innovative products with a budget allocated to R & D and through a capacity of 42 million meters, realizing 50 percent of the world’s value-added denim fabric production, Çalık Denim by 2020 aims to expand its capacity up to 60 million meters via carrying out an investment worth 20 million dollars. As of today exporting to 40 countries, Çalık Denim will increase its worldwide market share, which is currently 5 percent up to 10 percent by the year 2020.
Providing information regarding the denim market in the world and Turkey at the press conference held by virtue of their 30th anniversary, Çalık Denim General Manager Mr. Hamit Yenici whereas indicating that Çalık Denim took place amongst the top 200 exporting companies in Turkey, quoted his wordings as follows; “In the last 7 years we have increased our capacity by carrying out an investment worth 120 million dollars and currently we are among the top 10 premium denim producers in the world. With 30 years of experience as well as trade knowledge and notably Europe and America forming our primary markets, we are directly exporting fabrics to more than 40 countries.”
Mr. Yenici stating that in the period of 2018-2021 with an additional investment worth 120 million dollars, they were aiming to increase the capacity by 60 million meters, quoted as follows; “In line with this objective, through the production we have actualized in 2016 we aim to increase our worldwide market share in value-added and innovative product range, which is currently 5 percent up to 10 percent by 2020. We are continuing to work without blinking an eye so as to reach to our targets.”
Mr. Yenici indicating that through the regular investments carried out for R & D resources, together with their innovative approach and new collections that Çalık Denim was enhancing its brand awareness in the world market within each year, also mentioned that the denim industry was interrelated with fashion as well as technology and emphasized the significance of R & D investments. Mr. Yenici stated as follows, “We own the 7th R & D centre within the textile industry of Turkey and in accordance with our new vision we will continuously improve through our R & D practices. As a denim fabric manufacturer within the premium segment, in order to maintain our position in the sector and act as a solution provider for our customers via our innovative structure, we always carry out our most important investments in technology and innovation.
When we also look at it from a numerical aspect, we allocate around 2 percent of our revenue in R & D investments. These research activities are not only inclusive of denim or fabrics. We are carrying out studies on a much broader level such as nano-technology, intelligent fabrics and different functionalities.
Denim Loves Art Exhibition with 30 Young International Designers
Mr. Hamit Yenici providing information regarding the “Denim Loves Art Exhibition”, which has been inspired by the fact that denim can be used in different disciplines, stated that on its 30th Anniversary, Çalık Denim placed its name under a project with the aim to support 30 young international designers. Mr. Yenici quoted as follows; “On our 30th Anniversary we created the Denim Loves Art exhibition, which consists of the works of 30 young international designers.
We made a call to the students of design and interior architecture departments from the world’s most prestigious schools consisting of; Parsons, Amsterdam Fashion, The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, Central St. Martin, Edinburg University, Citadella Artistic School, Istanbul Fashion Academy and Mimar Sinan University. The participants, who were selected by an international jury, with the aim to emphasize that denim were in all areas of our lives, designed not only clothing but many products such as furniture, accessories, shoes, bags, rugs and highlighted the role of denim in our lives.”
