Aegean textile and ready made garment exporters focuses on works regarding Russia, which comes forward among target markets. “Textile Industrial Trade Committee”, arranged by Aegean Textile and Raw Material Exporters Union with Ministry of Economy and Turkey Exporters Assembly coordinaton in Moscow and St. Petersburg, attracted great attention from the Russian businessmen.
13 firms who are Aegean exporters of yarn, knitted and woven fabric, home textiles and clothing attended to the Textile Industrial Trade Committee, which appealed to Russian Federation. The committee, who saw the collaboration and market opportunities on site, made bilateral discussions with more than 50 Russian firms. Underlining that Russia is a qute important market in terms of textile and ready made garment, Aegean industrial representatives stated that they endeavor for increasing export to Russia.
Sabri Ünlütürk, Board Chairman of Aegean Textile and Raw Material Exporters Union, implied that Turkish textile and clothing industry preserves to be the locomotive industry within Turkish export, due to its added value, contribution to employment and currency input provided. Ünlütürk, pointing out the importance of textile and ready made garment industries in national economy, continued: “In textile and clothing industry amounting 233.2 billion Dollars, we are the 8th biggest supplier in the world and the 2nd biggest supplier in European Union with our export value of 24.2 billion Dollars. 8 billion Dollars amount of our textile and clothing export, which has reached to 24.2 billion Dollars in 2011, consists of textile products such as cotton, yarn and fabric, and 16.2 billion Dollars amount consists of ready made and clothing products.ın Turkish export, which was 134.2 billions in 2011, rate of textile products has been 6 percent, ready made and clothing products has been 12 percent”.
Russia, 1st market in Textile, 10th market in Ready Made Garment
Sabri Ünlütürk informed that Russia took the first place among the first 20 countries which Turkey exports to, with 1 billion Dollars export, reminding that it is the 10th with its 320 million Dollars export among the first 20 countries in terms of ready made garment and clothing export. Ünlütürk stated: “According to 2011 data, while textile and raw material export made from Aegean Exports Union to Russia is 9.3 million Dollars, ready made and clothing export is around 1.9 million dollars. Aegean Exporters Union acquires 1 percent share from textile and raw materials export made from Turkey in general to Russia and in terms of ready made and clothing export, Aegean Exporters Union made an export of 0.62 percent; in this point, we believe that our export to Russia must be increased”.
Ünlütürk, underlining that in textile and clothing industries over 2.6 million workforce is employed today, informed that this number reaches up to 10 million with the ones who serves fort he industry. Ünlütürk finished his words by saying: “Our textile and clothing industry has become an important industry with its strong background, flexible and qualified workforce, geographical nearness to European markets, feature of being able to make production with a quality compatible to the latest trends. In this context, we think that Russia could have contributions to the 72 billion Dollars export target determined for 2023 in a great extent. For 2023, we aim at 5 billion Dollars export for textile and clothing products”.
