The authorizers of the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Customs and Trade declared the scanning results on the health- threatening unsafe products carried out on different criteria at 9th International Textile Symposium held by EKOTEKS Textile Laboratory. According to the data given, in the inspections made in the last 5 years, while 141 thousands of products including infant products, shoes, toys, stationery and ready- made clothings were seized with various reasons, a significant part of them were destroyed. Importer firms were imposed 4 million 757 thousand TL fine in total.
Hikmet Tanrıverdi, the President of Istanbul Textile and Apparels Exporters’ Association (İHKİB), who talked at the opening of the symposium, said that just in textile, ready- made clothings, shoes and leathercraft product group, 14 billion dollars of products were applied carcinogenic test in 2015. Mr. Tanrıverdi, by emphasizing that they undertook a shield task against the products including carcinogenic and considering as unsafe, maintained his speech as follows “Our Ministry of Economy inspected 14 billion dollars of products which were imported in 2015 with Risk Based Inspection System (RDDS). In these inspections, 49% of the dirty products are composing of Chinese origin products. And when we look at the data of the Ministry of Customs and Trade that inspect home market, general distrust rate being 38, 6% in 2011, reduced to 2, 9% in 2015 with the actualization of inspection system. And at textile, we meet a 5, 9% of distrust rate within 201 thousands of products inspected in 2015. But In the previous years, these rates in our sector were higher. But the last 6- 7 years of inspection performance of both the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Customs and Trade is setting a pleasing table before us. Despite these successful results obtained, we need to compact the times of inspection screen. ”
Distrust Product at Textile at 5, 9% Levels
Meral Karaaslan, Head of Department of the Protection of the Consumer and Market Surveillance, who gave information on the inspection results as being the Ministry of Customs and Trade, said that 76 thousands 479 products of 2 million 608 thousands 145 products in total inspected were tested as insecure, the responsibles firms from the mentioned products were imposed 1 million 869 thousand 619 liras fine. Karaaslan who told that insecure within the toys inspected became 7, 5%, also stated that this rate was found 3, 3% within stationery and 5, 9% within textile.
China Ranks First at ‘Dirty’ Product Source
Alper Sadık Tokgözlü, Head of the Department for Monitoring and Assessment of Import Policies of the Ministry of Economy, stated that 14 thousand 875 products of 1 million 156 thousand 179 of products declared were subjected to the inspection and 133 of the mentioned samples occurred ‘dirty’. Mr. Tokgözlü who stated that China ranked first at the alignment of dirty samples, said “India follows China with 28%, Pakistan with 7% and Bangladesh with 4%.”
Meral; “Clothes Sold For 3-5 TL Have a Risk Of Cancer”
Prof. Dr. Rasim Meral from İstanbul University Oncology Institute said that people having a small income preferred the clothed sold for 3- 5 TL as they were cheap but these products had a risk of cancer. Nilgün Özdemir, Chief Executive Officer of EKOTEKS, by stating that they performed all of the criteria of EU as being Turkey at textile and ready- made clothings production, said ‘’We can meet problems with imported products. Therefore, consumers need to be careful about the country of the origin of the products they buy.”
